Just Dance 2 sells 5 million copies in United States

Nintendo touts new sales figures for Wii-exclusive dancing game; title becomes system's eighth game to sell 5 million units in the region.

It's not a stretch to say Ubisoft's Just Dance franchise owns the boogie game genre. The next closest competitor--Harmonix's Dance Central--has gone platinum but isn't close to the French publisher's series. Today, the gap was extended, as Nintendo has announced that Just Dance 2 has sold 5 million units, becoming the eighth Wii title to reach that landmark.

More than 5 million have just danced.
More than 5 million have just danced.

The milestone was reached in July, when the Wii-exclusive dancing game tallied an additional 122,000 units at retail, according to the latest NPD data. The Wii now has eight titles that have sold in excess of 5 million units, which Nintendo said was twice as many as "competing current-generation consoles" have combined.

Nintendo also provided specific sales for the other seven Wii games to break the 5 million mark. These titles include: Wii Play (13.04 million), Mario Kart Wii (10.64 million), New Super Mario Bros. Wii (8.36 million), Wii Fit (8.17 million), Wii Fit Plus (7.06 million), Wii Sports Resort (6.45 million), and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (5.28 million).

No wonder at least half of the non-Nintendo games on Wii are party games; they're the only non-Nintendo games that sell well. Shame, really.

@crossdudu Yeah, Nintendo's third-party games tend to suck, especially when you compare them to their first-party games.

I am only glad to hear this because that means microsoft collected a lot of royalties which could fund earnest attempts at cool new tech. Otherwise... yeah, Kinect has a popular title for a certain demographic. within the demographic that would buy a kinect......

@AvatarMan96 dude I want to agree with you but dancing is rhythm... But yeah the game sucks you can sit on the couch and wave your hands around. Also you don't need rhythm to play this you just follow the images. What concerns me is that wii only has 8 games that have sold over 2 million? That sucks!!!

Figures why this sold a lot. Wii is a "family", "recreational" console still...

The crap barely constitute as a game. Very inaccurate, the game can't detect your moves at all.

@AvatarMan96 Next you tell me most Guitar Hero players has no actual guitar skills. And that many Modern Warfare and Counter-strike players have no idea how to handle a gun.

@AvatarMan96 keeping your rhythm can be tough when you're drunk. Not to mention when you're holding your drink at the same time.

I like this title a LOT better than other dance titles *cough*dance-dance-revolution*cough* it is the best blend of realism, not a completely unrealistic experience (just stepping on arrows) but not TOO realistic (a camera that charts every move to make sure each one is correct..might as well dance on your own to the radio and save $50)/..yeah it is occasionally a tad bit rough around the edges but it is one of the better dance games around and improves with each sequel.

'Tis a "party" game, you can get people together to play it and think they're getting a score. Plus it has popular music. In short, the "hardcores" hate it while the "casuals" eat it up.

This proves that even poor games can make money, Which explains why they keep recycling Madden every year.

The game is terrible. I don't see why everyone likes it. It requires NO dancing skill, just rhythm
