Kelby May leaves Counter Logic Gaming, MattComGo becomes general manager

Counter Logic Gaming's general manager, Kelby May will be departing the organization to join Good Game Agency, the umbrella organization under Alexander Garfield that owns and operates the Evil Geniuses and Alliance team brands.

May will be the VP of Accounts and Talent at GoodGame and will continue to assist the organization as GoodGame is contracted to CLG.

Counter Logic Gaming will be promoting Matthew "MattComGo" Marikian as the new manager of the organization and have recruited Bryan Chen as the Director of Finance and Operations.

George "HotShotGG" Georgallidis posted the following statement on the CLG website

Kelby's leadership and management of CLG were integral to its recovery and growth as an organization,"Even from his time as a volunteer staff writer, you could always see his drive to help the team, from organizing tournaments; creating content; to eventually acquiring sponsors and managing the team. I'm confident in Matt and Bryan's ability to not only take over Kelby's previous obligations, but expand on them as well. Matt has spent the past year learning from Kelby and taking responsibility of the various duties of a general manager. We found Bryan within a pool of strong applicants, and he has demonstrated a solid knowledge of finance, accounting, social media engagement, and of course, passion for eSports.

May has posted his reasoning for leaving in a blog post for IBUYPOWER, a snippet is below.

So why then am I moving on now? Last November, Alex Garfield approached me about coming to work for him at GG. As those who follow me will know, Alex Garfield is the person I respect the most in the business side of this industry. While I turned him down initially, Alex was persistent and we continued to talk. Over time, I got to know him further and came to realize he and I shared nearly identical philosophies regarding the business practices, ethics, and long term ambitions of the industry. My end goal in working with CLG (aside from supporting the team I love), has always been to do my best to continue to grow the eSports industry in a healthy, sustainable, long term manner. I firmly believe that one day eSports can be as culturally pervasive and significant as traditional sports. I’m not here to cash out early or to fleece talent. I never took or even asked for a raise while working for CLG and I never asked George for equity in the company. Keeping that money in the company to ensure CLG’s growth and allow us to do more cool things is much more rewarding to me than any bump in pay I would have received.
