Kojima Says OD And Physint Were Impacted By Strike

Kojima said he's hopeful efforts on the games can continue in 2025.

Game designer Hideo Kojima provided an update on his in-development games, including Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, OD, and Physint. Starting with the latter two, both were impacted by the SAG-AFTRA strike for video game actors, which began in July 2024 and remains ongoing.

For OD, which is in the works alongside Microsoft and Xbox, Kojima said his teams "developed the game" and did scanning efforts for environments and the actors themselves. Scanning and filming for OD was suspended due to the strike, however. For Physint, which is being published by Sony, Kojima said casting was suspended due to the strike. "We hope to resume [in 2025]," Kojima said.

As for Death Stranding 2, Kojima said, "We started to play and build up the game." He added that his teams conducted music production and recording, along with ADR for the actors.

Games that went into development prior to September 2023 are understood to be exempt from the strike, along ongoing with live-service games. This likely explains why OD and Physint were impacted but Death Stranding 2 was not.

OD will feature the actors Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier, with Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele contributing to the script. The cast for Physint, meanwhile, is unknown at this point. Death Stranding 2, meanwhile, features Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Troy Baker, Elle Fanning, and other celebrities.

The strike began July 26, at 12:01 AM. It's the first time SAG-AFTRA video game actors have gone on strike since 2016, when the work stoppage lasted for about one year.

SAG-AFTRA and game publishers like Warner Bros., Activision, Disney, and others, negotiated for about two years prior to the strike being called. The key sticking point appears to be regulation of generative AI technology.

Beyond games, Kojima said preparations and planning are underway for the Death Stranding movie and "other adaptations" of Kojima's games. When Physint was announced, Kojima also confirmed a partnership with Sony's Columbia Pictures, so it seems there could be a Physint film in the works as well.

Kojima attended The Game Awards in December 2024, but had no announcements to share.

You see my problem with the whole AI technology thing isn't the whole, “replacing actors for your mongering”. Because it's not that good it'll just objectively never be that good. My problem is that AI is a “speed-based tool”. Meaning is good at making the work faster and more efficient. Allow me to speak for everybody on the planet when I say this, “the problem with American media isn't the speed of when we're getting it it's the quality.”. I mean I can get myself Taco Bell faster if it was made by robots and brought over to me by flying a drone. But it's still Taco Bell all I'm gonna get is diarrhea faster.

@illegal_peanut: The robot would definitely not only get you your Taco Bell faster, but it would better and actually made correctly.

@BIG_BOSS_927: No it will not.

Bad ingredients can't be improved with machines.

A turd sandwich is still a turd sandwich no matter if I made it, or a robot, or Gordan Ramsey.

No one cares about what he's up to. After Death Stranding AKA Amazon delivery guy simulator he proved what made Metal Gear series decent was just because of Konami, their resources and most importantly patience. Despite this why Metal Gear Solid V was so bad was just because of Kojima clearly. They are sucker to trust this guy, shower him with praise and expect him to do a good job without over 100 people made Metal Gear a decent series.

What's bad about Kojima is he steal ideas all around and mixup them in blender and after drinking it he puke and call it "A Hideo Kojima Video Game™". He stole from Neon Genesis Evangelion is Zone of Enders BS, Snatcher is direct steal from Bladerunner that's BS ripoff of "Do Androids Dream Electric Sheep?", Policenauts is how it would be if Lethal Weapon had generic sci-fi anime story, Death Stranding is directly stolen from Amazon delivery service and The Children Who Chase Lost Voices's universe on weird shadowy monsters called Izoku attack just like whatever creatures attack in Death Stranding. And lastly Metal Gear series stolen from lots of movies I lost count but mainly MacGyver, Escape from New York, the "hide in box" gameplay is ripoff from a scene in Time of the Gypsies. It's especially bothersome when he turn his video games into what tv series he like to watch like turning Metal Gear into 24 and James Bond in 3rd game, and 5th was Walking Dead BS.

People believe he is creative enough to come up with these ideas when he loves to steal and merge them, and some people are like "wow what a reference" when dude it's not how reference is, he directly steal ideas because he doesn't know better.

I only care about how fun MGS 1 and MGS 3 was just because I'm sucker for stealth genre, and I admire sense of humor and a little bit mature look on how real world is especially in MGS 3, MGS 4 and MGR but it doesn't mean he is something special. I do like Spy Fiction and Splinter Cell series more on stealth genre. Other people are not that "thief" therefore they don't steal ideas, they could and would be praised but Hideo Kojima is just the toxic guy love to be showered with praise for work he actually didn't, and when his games are BS low-level life forms love to believe he is Shakespeare or something just because they don't admit how bad his games are. Especially in Death Stranding Kojima himself admit he has no idea WTF is going on in the game yet people praise him like he is literature god ayy lmao.

@guitarwarrior66: Homie doesn't understand the difference between “plagiarize” and “inspired”.

@guitarwarrior66: Wrote a novel about your overly passionate opinions, and it's still an L take.
