Last Chance To Get Assassin's Creed Unity For Free On PC

The game is yours to keep if you download it before tomorrow.

The world watched in horror as fire engulfed Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris Monday evening, spreading through the top floor of its attic and eventually collapsing the church's iconic spire. Across the globe, people have expressed their support for the French people, and already millions of dollars have been donated to the cathedral's restoration efforts. Ubisoft is the latest company to pledge its support; the French video game company announced today it will donate €500,000 (about $565,000) to aid the restoration and reconstruction efforts for Notre Dame.

In addition, Ubisoft is giving away Assassin's Creed Unity for free--you can download it for PC (Uplay) at no cost now until April 25 at 3 AM (your local time). Once you download the game, it'll be yours to keep forever in your Uplay games library.

Now Playing: Free Assassin's Creed Unity After Notre Dame Cathedral Fire - GS News Update

Ubisoft has a special connection to Notre Dame and the city of Paris--the setting was virtually recreated to a precise level of detail in Assassin's Creed Unity. In fact, the virtual rendition of Notre Dame is so accurate that it may serve as an important piece of historical media. Assassin's Creed Unity level artist Caroline Miousse told The Verge in a 2014 interview that she spent two years recreating the cathedral from the inside out. "I made some other stuff in the game, but 80 percent of my time was spent on the Notre Dame," she said.

No Caption Provided

Assassin's Creed Unity provides a unique opportunity, especially for those who have never been to Paris, to experience Notre Dame first-hand in its original glory, so be sure to pick up the game while it's free for the next week.

"Video games can enable us to explore places in ways we never could have otherwise imagined," Ubisoft wrote in its blog post. "We hope, with this small gesture, we can provide everyone an opportunity to appreciate our virtual homage to this monumental piece of architecture."

Thank You Ubisoft. If you had told me several days ago I would benefit in any way from that fire, I'd have questioned your sanity...

@barcaazul: Ironically the Notre Dame is still in better shape than Unity.

@Gamer4ever77: I think it's just a tad more inconvenient for them to do the same for consoles because they'll have to go through the platform holders and their storefronts, but I definitely agree that they should do it for consoles too.

Figures. I just bought this game maybe 6 months ago, and finally finished it last month. Not the best AC game but I like it better than AC 3.

Oh, so that's why I saw a joking image post about the wikipedia article stating the notre dame's status is "burning".

I should probably read news sites to learn about stuff like this.

@DAOWAce: So you must have been no where near any form of social media either for the last 48 hours to have not heard about it burning.

@Decoy77: Not everybody uses social media. Most are all intrusive data-collecting, tracking, profile and identity selling cesspools of the internet. Have a nice day.

This is a pretty classy move on Ubisoft's part. And thinking about it, if the likeness of Notre Dame is so close, i'm wondering if there is a way Ubisoft could translate that into a VR environment for people to utilize until the actual structure is rebuilt?

"The world watched in horror"

I mean it's a nice historic building and all but I'm not sure how many people were actually horrified by it burning down.

@WESTBLADE: Maybe you are trying to sound edgy, but only thing you show is ignorance and immaturity.

I figured you should know, since you don't seem aware of it.

@Warlord_Irochi:Ignorance? Because some old building i never cared about in the first place got burned down then i should be in a ''full sunshine'' mode? If you live there and/or lost someone/something because of that fire and can't accept a person who see nothing valuable in that building, is he wrong?

Think of that building as a well-known person. If a well-known person dies/gets murdered, people ''cry'' and media get at least something ''big'' to report and then drain that shit while it is interesting topic and they can profit on that, until people don't care about that much, simply put: they ignore it.
If someone you really love dies and nobody knows what an amazing person s/he was for the whole life, no-one cares 'cause they don't even know how much ''value'' s/he had for you.

Aren't YOU the ignorant and immature one judging someone who wrote something from a purely subjective point of view (it's called an opinion) and not objective (did i ever say ''no one cares, at least we got a free game''), yet you know NOTHING about me in person, let alone what made me/forced me to be so bitter in the very first place?
Go through my recenting posting history and see how much ''ignorance'' was i facing here and proven people wrong with pure FACTS and pure logic... If they couldn't comprehend what i said, then they either did a ''chicken run'' (ridiculed for being objective is not very ''motivational'', tbh) or just put me on ''ignore list'' cause they ''arguments/complaints'' were rendered completely invalid and/or they just couldn't admit their own mistakes nor did they voiced their opposite opinion so i could see if it has any valid points and let me reconsider/adjust my point of view.

A fantastic donation, Ubi. Paris needs all the help it can get to return a wondrous monument, not just to France but of the entire world, to its former glory.
