Left 4 Dead 2 Gets A New Update Almost 11 Years After Launch

The Last Stand is an official community-created update for the cooperative zombie shooter.

It's been almost 11 years since Left 4 Dead 2 was released to satiate our thirst for cooperative zombie slaying. In recent times, Valve has remained committed to the four-player shooter by pushing out security updates and bug fixes that ensure it's still in top shape. The Last Stand is something else entirely, however, marking the first new content for the game since 2012's Cold Stream.

Like that release, The Last Stand is also a community creation that Valve has approved as an official release. It doesn't have a release date yet, and the announcement is light on details, but Valve has confirmed it's coming soon via an official blog post.

"It has been many years since the infection first hit. Radio silence, no sign of life, nothing but lingering hopes... CEDA is not going to save us," the blog post says. "But there is hope! A few brave souls have continued the fight against all odds, and soon we can all benefit from their resilience."

Those who played the original Left 4 Dead might remember The Last Stand was a survival map. It was never officially ported over to the sequel, but the Steam Workshop already has a number of mods that do just that. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for Valve to release an official update after all these years when the map is readily available. There must be more to it than that, so it will be interesting to see what exactly The Last Stand entails when Valve is ready to share more details.

Personally, I'm not going to give Valve any undue praise for merely making community created content official, especially considering that's practically all they ever do anymore when it comes to their old games.

Besides, Steam has become a pain to navigate thanks to their greedy decision to allow pornographic games on their platform, so I had to change my settings so that I won't have NSFW content all over my screen while browsing Steam, but it doesn't just block porn, but any/all sexual content, meaning any game that includes "suggestive themes" (i.e. pretty much everything including E10+ Rated games because the ESRB labels everything from cleavage to heavily veiled sexual innuendo "suggestive themes" under their guidelines) let alone games with a bit of harmless fan service, so I have to manually approve just about every game that I look up in order to navigate around their obnoxious warning screens.
