Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remastered 1&2's physical editions for PS5 and Switch now launch on July 11.

Physical editions for the great Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remastered collection have been delayed from June 13 to July 11. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered originally released in digital format last December for all three console platforms and PC. The upcoming standard and Deluxe Edition physical releases are only available for PS5 and Nintendo Switch. If you haven't preordered your copy yet, the budget-friendly Deluxe Edition looks like one of the coolest upcoming collectible editions--especially when factoring in its low price. You can preorder either edition at Amazon, Best Buy, or Walmart.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered includes enhanced versions of Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2, which originally launched on the PS1 and PS2 respectively. These games follow Raziel, a vampire-turned-wraith on a quest for revenge against his maker, the eponymous Kain, across the fantasy realm of Nosgoth. Both games feature all-new graphics--with the option to swap back to the original PS1 and PS2 graphics on the fly--gameplay tweaks, and in-game galleries full of art and behind-the-scenes materials. While the physical editions are only available for PS5 and Nintendo Switch, you can also grab the digital version on all consoles and PC.

Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered is part of a recent revitalization for the broader Legacy of Kain series that includes a new Soul Reaver prequel graphic novel and an upcoming tabletop RPG and lore encyclopedia. Hopefully, that means we'll see a new single-player entry in the series soon. Either way now is a great time to be a Legacy of Kain fan. Even better, it's also a great time to get into the series if you're new to the games, too, as most of which have been re-released on modern platforms.

The Soul Reaver duology only represents one chunk of the overarching Legacy of Kain timeline. The franchise started with Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, which follows Kain's transformation into a vampire, and its events serve as the basis for the rest of the series and are even revisited--and reframed--by Soul Reaver's time-hopping plot. It was followed up with Blood Omen 2, and while it's largely disconnected from the events of Soul Reaver, it furthers Kain's characterization and Nosgoth's history. Both games are available on the PlayStation Store and on PC via GOG and Steam.

The storyline capped off with Legacy of Kain: Defiance, which directly follows the events of Soul Reaver 1 and 2, and features both Raziel and Kain as playable characters. Fair warning that it ends on a cliffhanger--which is part of why fans have been pining for a new game in the series--but it at least offers some closure on the events of the Soul Reaver arc and is worth grabbing after completing the remastered collection. Legacy of Kain: Defiance is only available on PC (unless you get your hands on a used PS2 copy), but it costs just $7.

As of this date... I have tried the remaster - I did not buy it.

I am a big fan of the very first game legacy of kain RPG, ... really good back then. Watch minute of it here https://youtu.be/SKTXp3j6Csg?t=750 on YT classic gaming. For 96' it was wildly amazing. The LoK games after were rather good, a bit too much box moving - who knew vampires would spend soo much time dragging boxes around. Good but not great games, I still played through them.

So was the remaster any good... yes and no, there are few quality of life - but the remaster part of it, seems to be a AI overhaul of the graphics giving everything a nice smooth coat of paint, nothing is strikingly stand out. There are no HDR or RT lighting, and the FPS is capped on most platforms at 60, and on pc it looks weird if you try doing anything else. What ever interpolating they are doing, does not work, if you try for higher fps it feels weird. They have brought some graphic overhaul to the main characters, but for the most part everything looks similar but brighter or given some highlights.

If you have not played these two games, try em out they are pretty good and at a reasonable price on steam. If you have, I would just try a emulator and rom, as they have pretty good upscale settings, to take you down memory lane until you remember most of the game is puzzle pieces where you drag boxes around, and platform jump.

Would I have liked a Resident Evil 2 or 4 remake, FF7Remake, of these games... for sure. But right now if you have played these once, you may want to just try a demo, emulator, torrent etc and see. We are getting too many old classic games that were just run through AI, upscaling and replacing graphics, but really adding nothing that amazing, for the $$$ especially if you have played them once already.

Remake Blood Omen to todays graphics or give us a sequel in the franchise, make us something NEW. Sounds weird, doesn't it.

Awesome, day one. Another release skipping Xbox becaise of Sony money hatting, right?

Only messing, its clearly because 8 million series x consoles (only 500,000 sold the past 12 months), simply isn't feasible to do a physical release for. I'm not joking this time.

Limited run trying to rip people off refusing to answer questions such as do you have exclusive rights to the physical game which drove people to their site and then instead of an open pre order which they always do they made the regular version of the game limited so they sold out in hours. Surprise surprise the collectors edition was an open pre order so they tried pushing people to buy the collectors edition which is super scummy but it came out that there was a retail physical version that's cheaper than their basic version before folks spent over a hundred dollars on something they only wanted the game from

@tbird7586: This is ... mass consumer media, global entertainment media. While FOMO is having people buy up limited preorders, storefronts will still have it in stock at launch and will so until there is no demand. You can buy it, as of now- not sure why anyone needs a preorder, but whatever.

It is just corporations wanting you to give them your money... but ultimately, no one has got to. I played all three games in the Kain series, but I am good. Since I have so many games on my list, I might pick it up later this summer or next, either used physical or digital. No one is holding my children hostage.... so I am good.
