Legacy of Ys preserved on DS
Atlus preps 3D remakes of role-playing series' Books I & II for release on DS February 10.
In August, Nintendo added the TurboGrafx CD edition of Ys Books I & II to its Virtual Console library, allowing latter-day gamers to experience an older console action-role-playing game. Those who found the game a touch crude by current standards may be interested in giving it a second chance, as Atlus today confirmed a North American release for Legacy of Ys: Books I & II, a new 3D remake of the series' origins for the Nintendo DS.
As with other DS remakes, Legacy of Ys is getting a handful of updates to take advantage of the new platform. Beyond the 3D graphics, the game will feature new levels, enemies, and equipment, optional touch-screen controls, local multiplayer for up to four, and remixed music.
The Virtual Console release aside, the Ys series has been dormant in North America since Konami released Ys: The Ark of Napishtim for the PlayStation Portable in February of 2006. That game was itself a port of the PlayStation 2 game of the same name released a full year before.
Legacy of Ys: Books I & II is scheduled for release in North America on February 10.
