Lego MMO launching in 2014

Lego Minifigures Online coming to PC, iOS, and Android during second half of next year.

Lego Minifigures Online--the all-new massively multiplayer online game from Age of Conan and The Secret World developer Funcom--will launch during the second half of 2014, it was announced today.

The game will be available on PC, iOS, and Android at launch. A business model was not announced.

Lego Minifigures Online is based on the Lego minifigures line of real-world toys. These toys will include a code to download a virtual version as a playable character in the game.

Players will be able to collect around 100 characters in all, and can swap between three playable characters at any given moment during the game.

Lego Minifigures Online will also feature PVP, though Funcom said it would talk more about this component later in the year. The game was originally announced last year.

A Lego MMO game has been attempted before. In October 2010, NetDevil launched Lego Universe, but the game had a short life. In November 2011, the Lego Group announced it would be shuttering the game. It managed to attract 2 million users, but failed to set up a satisfactory revenue model, developers said.

I enjoy playing the lego games with my son but I don't think we will do this. I am sure he would enjoy it at first, but I guess it depends what you can do in the game.

If they can mix the Lego Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Pirates universe all into this, letting users jump from world to world, they'll make it.

Funcom and MMO's don't mix, you guys. I'd steer clear of this one.

Also, unrelated, but doesn't that picture look exactly like Stranglethorn Vale's town from WoW?

@yearssomuch The only good mmo made by funcom was Anarchy Online. Since then AoC was decent but had a bad start and TSW is kinda booring. A steady decline...

@yearssomuch But Age of Conan was good but people were too busy playing linear easy WoW back then. They still are actually so no MMO will gain place in this world before Blizzard closes down the WoW.

@arqe @yearssomuch No.. AoC was fun, but it was such a buggy pile of crap that it became worth no ones time. The fact that the game could run better on highest graphics settings than it could on lowest is embarrassing.. at least that's how it was at launch, and for months after for many, many users. Not to mention all of the bugs and Funcom's complete and total disregard for customer support, and this is a company I'll never deal with ever again.

It's been 4 or 5 years since I bought AoC and I STILL regret it, to this day.

People play WoW because it's simple, linear, and it's not broken, unlike the crap that Funcom pumps out. I don't like World of Warcraft, and I especially don't like Activison/Blizzard, but don't use them to put Funcom up on a pedestal.. they're not worth the time.
