Life-Sized Ghostbusters Proton Pack Replica Announced By Hasbro
Who you gonna call? Someone who's ready to spend $400 on this detailed Ghostbusters prop replica.
Ghostbusters proton packs are usually available as either cheap replicas that lack a number of screen-accurate details or expensive kits that take plenty of time and effort to put together. Hasbro may have finally reached the perfect compromise with its latest offering, which is currently up on its crowdfunding website Haslab.
A $400 pledge gets you a proton pack based on Egon Spengler's backpack from Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Hasbro says that it used 3D scans of the movie prop, and the final product will feature detailed weathering, a customizable cyclotron, and the signature sound effects of the unlicensed nuclear accelerator.
The only caveats here seem to be the lack of a traditional Alice-Frame that the original props came mounted on, although it seems like the backpack has space for one to be mounted to one. You'll also need to supply your own neutrona wand, which Hasbro sells separately.
The project currently needs 7,000 people to back it, and at the time of writing this post, it has over 5,000 pledges with 44 days left on the clock. There have been efforts in the past to produce official high-end replicas, with prop company Anovos--now rebranded to Denuo Novo--offering a proton pack kit that cost well over $3,000 and was directly cast from a screen-used "hero" prop.
While you'll have to wait until 2023 for the proton pack to ship--provided that the crowdfunding campaign is successful--there's still time to put together a Ghostbusters outfit at the eleventh hour for Halloween. Just remember, don't cross the streams if you run into any other paranormal exterminators this week.
