LOTR: Rings Of Power Season 2 Is "More Intense" And "Scarier" With Arrival Of Sauron, EP Says

Season 2 will bring a new dimension to The Rings of Power with Sauron now out in the open.

Amazon Studios has teased what to expect from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, and it sounds like things are getting darker and more intense now that Sauron has been unveiled.

Executive producer Lindsey Weber spoke to Deadline about what's to come in the sophomore season for Prime Video. Naturally, the discussion is full of spoilers.

Weber explained that Season 2 is "fundamentally different" because Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) has been revealed to be Sauron. The villain is now "out and about and doing his thing," Weber said, and this will lead to some changes in Season 2.

"It's going to grittier, more intense, maybe a little scarier," Weber said. "Certainly, it has a lot of the same other tonal ranges that you find in the show, which we feel are really sort of fundamental to feeling like you're in Middle-earth, but once Sauron is openly on the move and working his plans, things get rather interesting."

Vickers, meanwhile, said in another interview that Season 2 will feature some "really famous stories" taken from The Silmarillion, though he did not elaborate as to what they may be.

Season 2 will introduce a new character, the ancient elf Cirdan, and showrunner Patrick McKay teased that they have "cast a wonderful actor to play him," though it's too soon to reveal this person. Whatever the case, Cirdan won't be the only new character joining Rings of Power in Season 2 and beyond.

"Part of the fun of telling a story in Middle-earth is that there's all these wonderful canon characters that you've met Season 1 and then there are additional canon characters that we will get to in future seasons," McKay said. "If you know the lore, you know, anybody is fair game who might have been a part of the world at this time."

The Rings of Power Season 2 is now in production in the UK.

It started slow, but it is a very acceptable show. It could be better, especially the writing. Some parts are a bit silly. But overall is a fun to watch show with great visuals and after 2 episodes it gets interesting and more appealing.

Waiting for season two. I'm sure it will be good.

Renewing this show for a 2nd season is hands down trolling..

I've yet to read 1 positive anything about it.

@sippio: It definitely is trolling, unfortunately Amazon ordered 3 seasons, without waiting to see if the show will be successful or not. So there will be at least 3 seasons of this hot garbage regardless of what people think.

@daidochus: What I love most is to see people acting in a clever way, proving they are not...LOL

I guess the same thing happened to you when playing TLOU2, most of the information just went over your head, you should read a bit more the comments before replying to me.

I said and I quote: "It could be better, especially the writing. Some parts are a bit silly."

Comparing this show to TLOU2 is pathetic, House of the Dragon would be a better comparison... its also filled with depression. But comparing a game with a show makes zero sense, so... even my comparison only rasps the surface of a debate about both stories.

Rings of Power is simple fun, filled with simple glimpses of hope and enjoyment, and that's enough for me.

"not a lot of thought went into both lol."

Exactly what I felt with your reply...

I have no idea how people could possibly watch this for enjoyment.

It's worthy of mockery.

If fans continue to accept bad writing, it's all we'll be left with. This is objectively bad, and the production is worse. To accept this is simply to ensure that this becomes an industry standard.

To some extent it already has.

I can only hope that Amazon fire the writing team, re-hire production and casting staff, and start over with a story which all people can engage with.

Rings of Power was not that story.

It was a nice touch that the " other" elves are(were) the servants of ungoliant.

At least the show will shift or split its attention into two baddies.

One of the legit criticisms of the LotR movies was how Sauron had a bit of the "he's bad and evil because... he just is, ok"?

So developing Sauron as more of a real character is something the show does have going for it

@Spartan_418: Why would fans accept Amazon agenda driven writers dictate a canon for Sauron's agenda???

*Similar to how my oldschool StarWars crew recently 100% rejected ObiWan leaving Tatooine as canon...

I just treat the BS as a What-if when it gets weird.

@Spartan_418: ya, I see that. I suppose that is why they had that opening sequence but you only get so much detail. I agree this show is doing a great job filling the gaps. Sauron isn't just a big bad he sort of has a Lucifer vibe. He seems to have charisma and can influence politically to get people to do his bidding. Seems to go in line with bis objective of getting kings and lords of other kingdoms bound to his will using the rings.

I'm curious how he gets into the state of requiring the ring to keep his corporal form. Probably makes some giant sacrifice to make the ring of power. Probably uses himself someway as an ingredient and that makes the ring and sauron one in the same, but more powerful. Or, did he know defeat in that moment was inevitable and was playing the long game knowing they'd not be able to destroy it?

I see a lot of hate towards this show. While it isn’t great and sometimes even corny and a little nonsensical, I thought it picked up nicely towards the end and it was mostly enjoyable. I knew the entire season would be a build up to something much bigger and more interesting, so I’m not judging until after season 2. The finale really called back to the movies in atmosphere and tone. It finally felt like LOTR and had an actual impact.

As for House of the Dragon, I have serious doubts that it’s any better, but I I’ll find out for myself soon.

This show is made for nobody. Watch House of the Dragon instead, an actual show made for humans.

I haven’t watched the episode yet but if the thumbnail for this article itself is a spoiler, you people at GameStop are an absolute joke and have zero integrity. I mean why put at the top of the article “spoilers to follow” if the image you see beforehand is the spoiler itself
