Macronix to supply chips for Nintendo consoles

MegaChips has announced that Macronix International will build a new production facility to manufacture chips for Nintendo's upcoming video game platforms, the GameCube and the Game Boy Advance. The production facilities will provide a "stable supply" of chips for both machines. Macronix will lease chip-making equipment worth $74 million from Nintendo to produce the chips for the GameCube and Game Boy Advance. The new production plant will supply 3,000 8-inch wafers that will in turn generate $81 million per year.

Macronix previously supplied mask ROM chips for the Nintendo 64 that store information while the system is turned off.
