Mafia 3 Release Date Announced, New Trailer and Deluxe Versions Revealed
Open-world crime game landing in October for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
2K's crime game Mafia III will launch on October 7, the publisher announced today, while also confirming preorder bonuses and various special edition versions of the game. Additionally, a new trailer has been released, providing a new look at the '60s-set game's story and characters. Check it out above.
Everyone who preorders Mafia III will receive what 2K is calling the "Family Kick-Back." This comes with three "exclusive" vehicles and weapons. These will be "lieutenant-themed," but no other details were shared.
In addition to the standard version of Mafia III, 2K will release limited deluxe ($80) and limited collector's ($150) editions. The limited deluxe edition comes with the game and its Season Pass, while the collector's edition has everything in the limited deluxe edition, as well as physical content such as the game's score on vinyl, a collectible art book, art prints, and other, unannounced items.
In Mafia III, you play as Lincoln Clay, a mixed-race man who grew up an orphan and later fought in the Vietnam War before finding his way to New Orleans. The game places a lot of emphasis on depicting the racism and prejudice against black people that was present in the deep south in 1968, the year the game takes place. Developer Hangar 13 says the game does not intend to sensationalize racism.
Mafia III will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is developed by new 2K studio Hangar 13, under the direction of Star Wars veteran Haden Blackman.
In other recent news potentially relating to Mafia III, it's been suggested that Rockstar's rumored Red Dead Redemption 2 may in some way tie in to the game.
