Magic: The Gathering Launches Surprise Deadpool Secret Lair For "April 'Pools Day"

Five cards featuring Marvel's Merc With A Mouth appeared out of nowhere.

Sometimes, an announcement one might expect to be an April Fool's Day joke turns out to be the real deal. Case in point: One week after releasing limited-time drops featuring SpongeBob SquarePants, Wizards of the Coast has announced a surprise Secret Lair drop centered around Deadpool, the Merc With A Mouth from Marvel Comics.

The limited-run five-card drop features four reprinted MTG cards with new Deadpool-themed art and flavor text, in which the popular Marvel hero speaks directly to the player in his trademark fourth-wall-breaking style. The fifth card in the drop is a mechanically unique creature card for Deadpool himself--the first mechanically-unique Secret Lair card since Lara Croft, Tomb Raider in 2024.

    • Costs two generic, one red, and one black mana to cast
    • 5 power/3 toughness
    • As Deadpool enters, you may exchange his text box and another creature’s.
    • At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 3 life.
    • Pay three generic mana and sacrifice this creature: Each other player draws a card.
  • Deadly Rollick
  • Blasphemous Act

The Deadpool Secret Lair is the latest collaboration between Marvel and Magic: The Gathering, as Deadpool joins Captain America, Wolverine, Black Panther, Storm, and Iron Man on the list of heroes to receive themed Secret Lair drops. Spider-Man, meanwhile, will receive a full standard set in September, complete with booster packs, Welcome Decks, and more.

The Magic: The Gathering Deadpool Secret Lair is available now on the Secret Lair website.
