Mario Kart 8 Revives Excitebike as a Track in November's Zelda-Themed DLC Pack

Among the eight courses in November's DLC is the Excitebike Arena.

The first DLC pack for Mario Kart 8 continues to look very good. The latest aspect of it to be unveiled is the Excitebike Arena, a track based on the classic racing game's obstacle-laden course.

As you can see in the trailer above, the track is essentially a 3D version of what you'll remember playing in Excitebike: four lanes, lots of jumps, and the occasional patch of mud to slow you down. Much like the F-Zero kart included coming as DLC, this is quite possibly the only new Excitebike content you can expect to see in the near future from Nintendo, which has done nothing with the franchise outside of the 3D Classics release for 3DS in 2011.

The Zelda-themed DLC Pack 1 coming in November also includes three playable characters--Link, Tanooki Mario, and Cat Peach--four karts, and eight tracks. It's priced at $8 on its own, or $12 as part of a bundle that also gets you the Animal Crossing-themed DLC pack coming next year.

Nintendo just recently showed off two other aspects of next month's DLC: Link's Epona motorcycle and a classic Double Dash track. What we still don't know is a precise release date for any of this, but with November just days away, it shouldn't be long before we find out.

Chris Pereira, you should update the text to reference the fact that the track is randomly generated each time you play (of course other than the circular shape), except in time trial.

Except Excite Truck, ExciteBots, and NES Remix, but other than that, spot on. (Even if you don't count the first two, there's no way the 3D Classics version counts and not NES Remix).

I think the "Nintendo doesn't bring the quantity, but the quality" comments are a bit misleading. Nintendo makes more exclusives and brings more exclusives to their consoles than any other Dev, by far. Aren't we all just playing every thing else on our PC?

I think Nintendo brings both quantity and quality. But maybe that's just me.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The problem is they are missing nearly every big third party and most people won't go PC because of fear... Console gamers, despite their love for marketing terms like 1080p/60FPS, are extremely ignorant of technology. That's why they actually believe Sony and MS need to charge them for online services never mind that the majority of their online gaming is done on their system...

<< LINK REMOVED >> I understand what you're saying, but what quality over quantity still makes sense. Nintendo may have more exclusives than either of the other two, but the other two have a wider selection of quality games shared among the 3 (I'm counting the PC in this). N'otherwords, if you didn't care about exclusivity, you could just get one of the 3 others and get access to a large library of content.

That said, Nintendo's quality this year has been far superior to any other publisher including Ubisoft, Activision, etc. Even considering the Wii U as a "companion" console meant to fill the gaps that can't be filled by your current "main" console is a very worthwhile endeavor. I don't. My PS4 is mostly collecting dust after beating TLoU.

more importantly, why was i not told yoshi circuit was making a comeback? it was one of the best tracks in double dash (which was full of excelleent tracks to begin with, and yet MK8 salvaged some of the more meh ones)

@BrunoBRS Don't click the link about the returning DD track then. " but there's certainly some agreement on which was the most disappointing: That old forgotten << LINK REMOVED >> flop << LINK REMOVED >>." I've noticed Gamespot editors have been extra classy with both their opinions and their research lately. Isn't the Wii game the one that people tend to point to when talking about disliked MK games, if any?

The track looks good. Great memories. might pick a Wii U for holidays. Is not the quantity, is the quality that Nintendo is bringing now. There are good choices now. For any Nintendo hater out there.

Very retro-fun...

Now that I've found that all the old Wii-motes and controllers work with the Wii U, and there are plenty of can't-miss titles available (Bayonetta 2, SSB, Pikmin, Kart, Zelda, & of course Mario), I've decided it's worth picking one of these up for the holidays. I'd guess the Holiday bundles are a week or two away at this point.
