What to expect

During the Nintendo Treehouse livestreams, we saw some extended footage of Mario Kart World, including the first look at the Knockout Tour and Grand Prix modes, as well as GameChat functionality. The game seemingly also has in-game achievements, which some viewers cleverly spotted during the livestream. Nintendo has already confirmed that there won't be any official system-wide achievements like other platforms have.

That being said, we should expect to hear more information about the game, such as additional race tracks and playable characters. The Nintendo Treehouse stream suggested that there are 84 characters, including costume variants. There's also an indication that the franchise's most iconic track will make a return.

Mario Kart World has a Free Roam mode, and the presentation could go more in-depth as to what kind of activities players can engage with in that mode.

Mario Kart World launches on June 5 alongside Switch 2, and will cost a staggering $80. However, Nintendo has defended the price tag, saying the April 17 Mario Kart World Direct will help to demonstrate why the game costs that much.
