Max Experiencing Launch Day Issues As Streaming Platform Switches From HBO Max

The rebranded service is reportedly having login problems on top of crashing on Roku.

HBO Max has officially become Max, and the changeover has led to some technical difficulties for the streaming platform. There are reports of crashes and login issues across the board for the newly rebranded service from Warner Bros. Discovery.

Variety adds that users are voicing frustrations even using the new Max website. GameSpot has confirmed firsthand that the Roku app crashes, but we've still been able to access content through the old HBO Max app on Apple TV and iOS. A Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson apparently turned down an opportunity to address how widespread the problems are with Variety.

The name change--HBO Max to Max--was officially unveiled last month and also brings Discovery+ content into the fold for the service. One of the reasons for the rebranding was to ensure HBO stays distinct. The merged subscription service was first discussed back in August 2022.

A Max subscription starts at $10 monthly with ads, while ad-free tiers are $16 and $20 each month. Those options are separated by better resolutions, more offline downloads, and premium sound. Existing HBO Max subscribers have been told they don't need to do anything differently during the transition.

For more, here's everything you need to know about Max.

1st day problems are nothing.

What sucks is the price increase.

I reviewed the new programs and channels available. I will be forced to cancel HBO because i don't want to pay the increase for the new crap.

How unnecessary and dumb. You bought this brand, dumped a lot of great shows, doubled down on reality TV, then dumped the name, are hard at work doubling the price and slipping in ads, and somehow you need to boot everyone out and start anew just to change names to something no one gives a shit about?
