Medal of Honor 2, Need for Speed 13 due in 2012?

UK retailer GAME reportedly lets slip news of sequels to shooter and racing franchises from Electronic Arts due later this year.

An Electronic Arts meeting that was supposed to remain under wraps has reportedly been blown wide open. According to a tweet from United Kingdom retailer GAME (via Eurogamer), EA is preparing a Medal of Honor sequel and Need for Speed 13 for 2012.

It appears EA is filling 2012 with new Medal of Honor and Need for Speed games.
It appears EA is filling 2012 with new Medal of Honor and Need for Speed games.

A since-removed tweet from the retailer reportedly read, "EA presentation was great. Had mentions of a new Medal of Honor and Need for Speed 13! EA have an exciting year ahead."

Last February, Medal of Honor producer Greg Goodrich confirmed that a sequel to the series' 2010 revamp was in development, but it did not provide a projected release window. The first game has shipped over 5 million units globally.

As for whether or not a 2012 release is likely for a Medal of Honor sequel, EA CEO John Riccitiello indicated his enthusiasm for the shooter genre last year, saying, "I want market leadership in the first-person shooter business."

Switching to the other 2012-rumored game, today's mention of Need for Speed 13 is the first news of a fresh entry in EA's long-standing racing series. However, the Need for Speed series has been annualized since 2002, making a new game in 2012 seem likely.

An EA representative told GameSpot, "We don't comment on rumors."

P.S. EA mention going back to NFS roots if so we like to know WHEN???? criterions HOTPURSUIT did not make it. sure as HELL blackbox did not make it with "THE RUN" as i said below Porshe Unleashed would be excellent start followed by HighStakes along with ROAD AND TRACK PRESENT THE NEED FOR SPEED.

hopefully criterion games learnt their lesson and have second NFS not like burnout again. to much like RIDGE RACER,BURNOUT with the drifting. main reason i did not buy it why not call it BURNOUTFORSPEED you would think they would represent need for speed instead of burnout this time around.

NFS 13???? seriously hope its not like "THE CRAPTASTIC RUN" i knew it was a flop after seeing the driver get out and started running. why cant EA call EA canada to re-make THE NEED FOR SPEED, NFS 2,NFS 3,HIGHSTAKES,PORSHE UNLEASHED?? nothing wrong re-doing the first 5 games over since they cant come-up with nothing better. I rather re-make something than keep making crapola over an over an over.

@metalkid9 - Who says I'm not willing to try moh? If there's a demo I'd try moh and if I knew anyone that had the game I'd have tried it. I'm going by the trailers and gameplay vids. Come on, you have to admit at first glance one can easily see it looks a lot like cod. Even if it plays differently when you play it, at a glance it doesn't look like it. For the record, I'm not a fan of cod. Thus why I was turned off by what I saw. But like I said if I had an opportunity to try it myself I would be happy to be proven wrong. I'm just not willing to spend money to do so. For the record I don't spend money trying out any new COD games either. I just try the copies of the games my friends have.

MOH had an awesome campaign, but the bugs and the not so hot online were enough to eventually make me sell the game. That campaign had some awesome moments though! On the hill running out of ammo as tons of guys come to you with that epic song playing, hell yeah, that got me into the fight.

the last 2 years there has been 2 need for speed games a year the makers of burnout had their shot and they fumbled BIG TIME with not being able to customize the cars.... then the sequel to Shift happened and that was an utter disgrace and the dice let blackbox use the frostbite 2 engine to make the run and normally i'm one to pick the nfs titles up on day one and after Shift 2 i've since learned my lesson lol i'm just glad from what i've read and seen it doesnt look like a total waste of time .... but NOW EA thinks they are gonna do what they do with Madden ( i.e. Madden 10,11,12) and give Need For Speed a yearly number that just goes to show you that the name well for EA has run dry.... what NFS really needs is to go back to the drawing board like they did for Underground 1&2. just my opinion

@BelaidKL Couldn't agree more. The only difference is Activision release the same game every year, it will be interesting to see whether EA actually make substantial changes. For MoH I'm predicting yes, for Battlefield 4.. hmm.. maybe not.

after MoH 2 instead of a milky two year gap for EA/DICE shooters give them 3 to 4 year gaps 3 for MoH and 4 for BF or wait til next gen and bring good addons out to support the existing games

Not to be a hater... but im starting to notice something here... 1st Medal Of Honor 2010, Battlefield 3 2011, Medal Of Honor 2 2012 and an already confirmed Battlefield 4... if Battlefield 4 comes out 2013 then EA are taking the Call Of Duty approach with a game of one kind every 2 years... eg MW 2007 then WaW 08, MW2 09, BO 10, MW3 11, TBA 12 etc etc... it would be pretty ironic from a "CoD is milking it and EA isnt" perspective

@helldude90 It may have been rushed, but the story was far superior then any of the Call of Duty games. And the multiplayer was much better too in all honesty - it was refreshing. Medal of Honor can't come soon enough, loved the first.

Strikes me as being as news-worthy as reporting that the Sun arose this morning. I'm getting the impression Battlefield and Medal of Honor are going to be EA's equivalent of Treyarch and IW developed CoDs with alternating annual releases. I guess the silver-lining to this is that these games help fund games like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space. Carry on, EA.

@burgeg, "and the gameplay I saw of the last MOH looked too much like COD for my liking." Are you talking about the super realism and authenticity of the last MoH and it was too much like COD? Nothing about the game is like COD's arcadish gameplay. I think you should pick up the game and actually play it and see for yourself the difference. If you're willing to try out COD why can't you try out MoH? MoH might not be the best shooter to to others but to be honest it was my favourite shooter up until BF3 came out. and it's NOTHING like COD I can guarantee you that.

I don't doubt that a new MOH is in the works. Copies of Battlefield 3 came with a slip that advertised MOH with a different logo. (I think) I myself enjoyed the campaign for Medal of Honor. I liked the gameplay more than that of the multiplayer, I really didn't like taking leaning and such out with the engine switch.

Oh,as for MoH Frostbite engine, its usage is not dynamic, only used to provide few scripted moments, but in real time firefights,I don't remeber seeing much,if any non-scripted destruction around me.Frostbite engine was just a way to get some marketting hype for MoH,if you want to see Frostbite in its true glory, play BF3 or Bad Company 1/2...

@pHANTOMpHREAK9P I played both CoD and MoH franchises from its WW2 beginings.Sure,MoH Allied Assault was there first(even today its a quality game, stands the test of time well, and that landing scene is still great),but modern MoH simply lost its personality, its a 100% linear(invisible walls everywhere) and very short game(SP took me 4 hours to complete!) that TRIED to show some more humane side of soldiers, but failed miserably,it invoked no true feelings towards anything, just a lot of stereotypical HOAH marines with a lot of generic military chatter, another annoying thing introduced by CoD that is very overused today... It was an attempt to compete with Black Ops,had a lot of potential to be extraordinary, but in the end,it was nothing new, another mediocre military shooter.I repeat, you CAN'T beat CoD by copying it,you just create watered down products dissapointing original fanbase(in this case,me)! Also, don't think I like CoD,if that thought occured to you(I don't mindlessly hate it either, just don't play it,unappealing and mediocre series that started very strong, but degraded heavily over time, dragging many other quality franchises down with it)...

I never played the last MOH. I used to love the series in its early days. The first two games on PS1 were brilliant in their day. Frontline and Allied Assault were great as well. I kinda lost interest in the series after Rising Sun though, and the gameplay I saw of the last MOH looked too much like COD for my liking. Maybe it was good though. I dunno. If there's a demo for this one I'll check it out.

@Rocker6 I am going to assume you did NOT play MoH as it is not a watered down CoD clone (if you knew your CoD history, it was created because of the MoH franchise, they branched from the original company; sooo sick of too young to know fanboys talking like CoD invented fps). The MoH modernization reboot had WAAAAAYYYY more personality then CoD as it was based on an actual real life conflict in a real setting (with story and in game operations based upon actual tactics with input from the American military). Fighting Russians on a sub outside Manhattan in CoD is fun but so ridiculously unbelievable there is absolutely no depth to it at all. It plays like a Steven Seagal movie, fun but empty and brainless. MoH is no Einstein but a HELL of a lot more immersive, properly paced, and invoked real feelings for your npc teammates (calling base to abort the rescue as you're overrun and out of ammo just before helis arrive, that was intense because you know that has happened to real soldiers in the field but usually without the happy ending). Also the simple fact that the game ran on the frostbite engine also made the combat much more intense, the aforementioned level has your cover slowly being destroyed right before help arrives, more intense then any scripted event in the last three CoD's.

Like everyone one is saying the MOH campaign was fantastic. Multiplayer was alright but too rushed. As for a new NFS why not a new Most Wanted. A free roam would be pretty sweet as well
