Meet Sumail "Suma1L" Hassan Syed. Player for Evil Geniuses. Teenage Dota 2 prodigy from Pakistan. And now, millionaire.

He is no stranger to the competitive stage, helping EG secure first place and $1.2 million dollars at this year's Dota Asia Championships at the age of only 15.

Now, he's helped them pick up another title. The winners of The International 2015. And the winners of $6.63 million dollars. With this win under his belt, Suma1L is estimated to have earned $1.6 million dollars in his rookie year alone.

This weekend, Valve's 2015 International Dota 2 Championships took place, pitting the strongest teams around the world against each other.

In one corner was CDEC--an all Chinese team carrying the weight of the world. Coming in as a wild card team, they managed to defy all expectations and odds, defeating the tournament favorites, LGD.

In the other corner of the finals was EG--North America's beacon of hope. With the other North American teams knocked out, EG and Suma1L were tasked with the impossible: take down the Chinese titans.

And take down the titans, they did.

EG showed up and conquered, beating CDEC 3-1.

So much hate... so much jealousy

1. I dont think this guy has a problem to get a girl, he looks good ,is rich, and sure has manys groupies. Sorry fat nerd haters...

2. To compete at this level, you really need to sacrifice a lot. Its not fun, its hard work. To have the guts to dont give up and go though all this earns my respect. Keep on playing...

I would just play at that level for 5-6 years, make enough money to where I'd never have to work again and then wander off into the sunset.

Well the article doesn't make it clear, is he a Pakistani or an American citizen of Pakistani origin, because if he is the former then it's an even greater achievement. You can't make a "Meet The Person" title without researched background info.

@kool_zed_speaks: "from Pakistan" meaning he originated there. the states has made it easy for pro gamers to get visas, so you are just being difficult when it clearly states hes from pakistan :P

WTF? This was not an article -- this was more like a short PR piece. If you're gonna use a headline like "Meet so and so...," you should at least give us a little background on the subject you're writing about.

@beyondthegun: Unfortunately, competing at high level is nothing like playing games you love. At that level, you no longer reach a point where you're playing the game. It becomes work and you spend all day, every day, working, practicing, researching, etc. It's more demanding than regular jobs. By comparison, a job where I worked 60-hours and 6-days a week was less demanding than when I competed at high level play in video games. Though I'm sure there are plenty of pros who truly enjoy competing, it's nothing like playing games for fun.

@NTenseify: Mmhm. There's a reason they're called eSports. The time spent practicing, training, hard work, and dedication is comparable to professional athletes, and despite it not being a test of physical aptitude and coordination (of which there is arguably a bit in eSports, too) these players have the same level of mastery of their game of choice as Sydney Crosby, or Lionel Messi.

@brostepper: I can understand why people don't like lol but dota 2 is just amazing.

Every hero you pick must be analyzed, if they are the right pick: can someone counter it? Will it be good early, mid or late-game? Can it counter a hero? And so on. The strategic thinking goes through the whole game. And you are never this strong super hero that exists in movies and alike. All your choices matters. Will you prove yourself smarter than your enemies or will they outsmart you? But you maybe only like simple games? :)

@craiynel: His point was that, most of us real gamers don't like sporty games, nor grindy games, we like permanent progression and rewards that help that, a story, something visually pleasing. Mobas have the gameplay, but everything else is meh. I wouldn't want to grind the few of the same maps over and over and over for 20-40 minutes, it's just feels wasted time, it's like a clicker game but worse, you try in a given time make the best choices, and when the times up you have to restart from the beginning. That's why I hate most sport games, only like racing is decent enough. The supreme exception would be fighting game, because I really like meaty combat where you're in control of everything, you can learn every move and think up of combos, or just jump straight into a fight and figure it out just by fighting, for the latter that's how I like to do, not look at data sheet and remember icons.

@maitkarro: hahaha u made ur point quite clear that u don't like traditional sports then...grinding the ball on and on from one side of the field to the other is called football, the most important tournament all over the world...

@maitkarro: "us real gamers". HAHAHA, you're really cute. If you want to talk about permanent progression, I'd say the most satisfying progression of all is not seeing that your character has earned 500xp, +5 wisdom, or picked up a shiny new item. It's seeing yourself, the gamer, picking up new skills, knowledge and strategies, and getting better at the game. If by this point you still don't feel like getting off your high horse, then feel free to continue being a "real gamer" and play your real games.

@Soundaholic92: You don't even know what is a difference of a gamer and a sportsman. One does it for fun the other one does it for fame, money or just boosting his own ego or his performance. Like I give crap about those stuff, I just want entertainment something that will keep my mind engaged, not grind mindlessly until you see a little bit of difference.

@Soundaholic92 Yea... picking up new skills etc. huh? Until a new version of the game or a new game in the genre comes out next year, where all the people will ditch that game and go to the new one, and your newly earned grinded out skills are made worthless.......... the reason why I don't play any new FPS now such as CoD, because every 8 months a new game comes out and the current is ditched, which makes it completely pointless to play and get god at. CS lasted over a decade and is still going.... and even with the new releases the game is basically the same as the older ones. A new CoD comes out and you went from the current version to some garbage in which you have jet packs and can climb walls. :

@maitkarro: Real gamers? What do you mean with that? I'm sorry but I completely disagree with you. I like the visuals dota 2 has. Have you even played Dota 2? And it's more than just grinding for that time segment. Competitive games works like that, same goes for soccer, ishockey and so on of course they will exist within games. You maybe should just stay away from those games then and don't bother about us who likes it..

Those fighting games probably works the same because you have to know how far the hitboxes reaches and how much damage each attack does and for how long the animations run and so on and probably how long it takes for you take enter the combo. Same works with dota 2, you don't have to know all thia extra to enjoy it.

@craiynel: Yeah I've played it, also played LoL when it was in beta, also played lots of anime arenas in warcraft 3, so I'm done with mobas, the only interesting moba I liked was LOCO, but the matchmaking sucked hard, because the game was more loot based than any other normal moba, also if you want a pure skill based moba try heroes of the storm, everyone has equal advantage and skill only matters, not who has seen all the items and learned the best way to gear themselves up for a specific enemy.
The only hitboxes learning(the boring crap) that matters in fighting games are when the enemy is in the air, everything else is just pure awesome fun. Hate those guys who just sit in the practice mode and then try to figure out what's the max dmg combo, and then come into a real fight and then just spam it and won't even bother anything else.

I dont get the hate for this. People contributing to the prize pool because they enjoy playing the game. Kid putting his time and effort to win the championship. An event this big creates a lot of job opportunities and tourism for US.
