Mega Man 11 Finally Revealed With New Art Style; Coming To Switch, PS4, Xbox One, And PC

Capcom celebrated the 30-year anniversary of Mega Man during a livestream this week. After teasing that it would be an event fans wouldn't want to miss, the publisher shared several announcements--the most significant of which is the reveal of a brand-new game, Mega Man 11.

There aren't many details at this point, but we do know Mega Man 11 will be released for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It's due out in 2018 and is being directed by Koji Oda, with Kazuhiro Tsuchiya on board as a producer. We got a brief look at some gameplay in a video--check it out above.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Mega Man 11 Announced For PS4, Xbox One, Switch, And PC

Like its predecessors, Mega Man 11 is still a 2D side-scrolling action-platformer. During the stream, the developers said that the overriding goal in development is to "resurrect" Mega Man. Fundamentally, it looks very similar to past Mega Man games, although it does feature a noticeably different art style. One key visual difference is that Mega Man's appearance will change when acquiring a new weapon--not just his color.

A release date more specific than 2018 was not shared, and it may be some time before we learn much more about the project. Capcom said we'll receive more information next summer. Also during the stream, we learned that all eight Mega Man X games are headed to the same platforms as Mega Man 11 in 2018. Additionally, both Mega Man Legacy Collection and Legacy Collection 2 are headed to Switch in 2018 with some form of Amiibo support.

While I'm happy there is something. I'm dissapointed in fans who want needless sequels. We need series tied to the next in the mythos and we need ZX 3 and Legends 3 above all else. But we have to use this opportunity to show Capcom we need Mega Man. Whatever comes out next I'll get. I can't really rebuy Legacy Collection again for the 5th time or so but everything else I will get. And say no to merchandising. We need more games developed and a new gen to see what it's all about.

I still wish ZX3 and Legends 3 can be made via partnerships from Inti Creates and Comcept however. We need Inafune's vision intact.

@makimaki: I also think there is still room to explore the classic Megaman series, to this day the only thing known between what happened back then and the X series is that Light created X and Wily created Zero, we know Light died from old age and we assume that Wily died as well (assume because the whole thing with Weil, Isaac and the Zero Virus still leaves a lot of questions open) we have no idea what happened to the rest of the classic characters and what happened to humanity between 20XX and 21XX, I seriously doubt MM11 will delve into that but I hope someday we will get clarity.

Wow. A new Mega Man game. I never thought that would happen.

I'm not much of a Mega Man fan (I only ever really liked that Mega Man RPG that was on the PS1), but that's still cool.

@cornbredx: Legends (called 64 on N64), or Dash! in Japan. Maybe they'll resurrect Legends 3 that was supposed to be a 3DS game.

Wow, this actually looks awesome. I'm surprised. The deeper backgrounds and mix of 3D models at points seem to blend rather well.

The music could use some more flare, but it doesn't suck, that's good enough for being a year out still.
