Bustin' makes me feel good.

All eight of the main Mega Man X games will be coming across two compilations this July. Capcom announced today that the Mega Man X Legacy Collection and X Legacy Collection 2 will both be available on July 24. The first collection includes Mega Man X, X2, X3, and X4, while the second will have X5, X6, X7, and X8.

Both collections will be available digitally on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch for $20 apiece, or as a $40 retail bundle for the console versions. The PS4 and Xbox One console bundles will include a disc for each collection, while the Switch one will have a cartridge for the first collection and a download voucher for the second.

The collections add a new "X Challenge" mode that pits you against pairs of classic bosses. You can choose up to three weapons to take into battle with you, or challenge yourself with a buster-only run. Leaderboards will help you gain bragging rights for your maverick-hunting abilities.

Each of the games in the collection has gotten some degree of visual polish, like optional smoothing and CRT filters for the sprite-based games and 3D models getting sharpened for later ones. Both collections will include The Day of Σ, a video that was originally included as part of Maverick Hunter X on Vita. It tells the story leading up to the events of the first game. They'll also include a museum with trailers, key art, toys, trading cards, keychains, and other merch. Both collections will also include a soundtrack for X, X2, and X3, and new remixes.

Guess I'll be picking up the bundle for PS4 then, just wish I didn't have to wait until July for this to come out...

Megaman X4 was always my personal favorite so I can't wait to finally play that one again!

I don't get it. Why did they need to split those 8 old school 2D sidecroll games into 2 collections, and put them on 2 seperate Bluray discs? A bluray holds 50gb and all those games combined shouldn't take up more than a couple gb, no matter what graphical changes they might have made to them. Unless they've added lots of cg cutscenes in 4K resolution to each game.

@Atzenkiller: It's so they can milk their games for more money.

@Simulator_Shock: According to this article there'll only be a complete version being sold in retail, with 2 discs. And the Switch even gets the first half on a cartridge only while you have to download the rest.

YES! The classic Megaman games are okay but it's the Megaman X series that turned me into a fan X3 was my favorite game for a really long time. Day one purchases on PS4 for me! I wish some of the other X games were included, like X Command Mission but whatever.

Now if only they would release the ZX collection, too.. Or the Legacy games as a collection. That would be great! Can't say I have the time to do a playthrough of the Battle Network series again.

I am getting the entire Megaman collection at launch for our Switch. Original, and the X series. Looking forward to it.

Really looking forward to this. I just wish it was coming sooner than July! Will probably purchase for Xbox & Switch. I am guessing that Mega Man X3 this time around is the SNES version and not the Saturn one like in the older collection for Ps2 & GC.

Hopefully some more info will be released on Mega Man 11! Looking forward to playing that too when it is released!

A little saddened that X: Command Mission isn't included with this but oh well. Now, since these collections are actually selling well, I hope for a Legends collection with all three games, a battle network collection and a Zero collection. I feel that capcom is trying to make all the games available for current audiences and since reception has been stellar, they'll hopefully do this. I want the Legends collection most of all!

@MegamanX97: I'm just excited to be able to complete the X Series. I was able to beat the first 3 years ago, and I tried 4-6 with the ps2 collection but never finished them before my PS2 broke. Couldn't track down X7/X8 either. Can't wait to see the whole story finally!

@xenoriddley: X to X4 are the real highlights for me. I do enjoy X5 a fair bit and I "like" X6. Mega Man X7 was a weird turning point for the series, but I did enjoy X8 quite a bit. I can't say I hate X7, I still enjoyed it, but it was for sure the weakest of the series. I am crossing my fingers for an X9 if the legacy collection sells well!

Who else wonders if there will be a third collection that has Command Mission, Maverick Hunter X, and Xtreme 1&2.

Sweet. Well I know what I’ll be getting in July. I’m definitely getting the Xbox One version but am also strongly considering on getting the Switch version as well for the portability factor.

I guess while technically right, Maverick Hunter X is a PSP game. You can just play it on Vita if you download it from PSN lol. Anyway, can't wait for this!

I didn't even know they made it this far...

I knew about X, X2 and X3 on Snes but then I never cared to follow Mega Man serie...

Anyway X, X2 and X3 were by far the best (Counting every game from the 1st NES installments...)

I might get the 1st part of "X" remake...

Why divide them over two releases? That makes no sense whatsoever.

what a scam lol... i won't purchase these games until i can get every megaman game on a single disc (megaman 1-10 and megaman x - x8)... make it happen! it is not hard! if capcom can do it with the sf collection releasing later this year, why can't they do it with megaman?

@rickjamesia: well, yea, i wouldn't expect them to release the entire megaman saga at $20. $40-50 would be very reasonable and i think many fans would be more than happy with that. the recently announced street fighter collection will release at $50 and i think that is very fair.

@Xristophoros: So you're not buying a game unless they pack more than 12 games on them...?

Isn't that a bit greedy?

@silv3rst0rm: the only one who is greedy here is capcom. these are mostly tiny games that wouldn't take up more than a couple GB in total (for the entire series combined). breaking up the x series into two releases and only including the first 6 entries with the first legacy collection is inexcusable.

@Xristophoros: It doesn't matter how much space they take up, it's that fact that you're buying full games. I feel that what they should have done is bundle X1-X6 in one collection, and X7,X8, and X Command Mission in the second.

Finally we get this in PAL regions as the PS2 etc version was never released over here so I had to import it for my modded PS2.

Perfect for my Switch.

As expected, they split the really small games into two groups instead of one complete collection.
