Metal Gear Games Are Out Now On GOG

Multiple Metal Gear games will be available to purchase on GOG, including Metal Gear Solid.

The Metal Gear series is hitting PC via GOG, Konami has announced. Previously, only a select few games in the franchise were available outside of consoles. They aren't the only Konami games hitting the service, either.

Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance were all rated in Taiwan prior to the official announcement. Metal Gear Solid and Substance actually had come to PC before, and Metal Gear Solid V was also released for PC, but this should give those who never play on PlayStation or Xbox a chance to experience more of the franchise. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remains a PS3 exclusive.

Now Playing: Metal Gear Solid On PC, Pokemon Trademarks, & New Kirby Game On Switch | Save State

The new GOG offerings don't seem to have any enhancements, and you're getting the original Metal Gear Solid rather than the GameCube remake. Substance does feature some enhancements and extra content not found in Metal Gear Solid 2's original release.

This also isn't the entire Metal Gear saga up until that point. Metal Gear 2 isn't listed, and that game's story has some interesting connections to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Releasing as the Konami Collector's Series, you'll also be able to get five Castlevania and Contra games, including Super C, Dracula's Curse, and Simon's Quest. These games originally released on the NES. Along with the Metal Gear games, the total cost for all of Konami's titles is only $32.

The news comes as there are rumors swirling of a Metal Gear Solid remake coming to PC and PS5. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

OK MGS2 is cool but couldn't care less about the original MGS, I preferred Twin Snakes, I'd be a lot happier if they released that on PC. Also MGS3, Portable Ops, Peace Walker and MGS4 as well. Not gonna spend a single dime until i see atleast an announcement.

Does Metal Gear include the NES version where you can drop the F bomb into the password system or is this a PC port?

Whoa, that was fast! I only heard about it yesterday. One has to wonder about the absence of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. There are perfectly good fan translations out there and Konami themselves even sanctioned their own for the Subsistence re release.

@asnakeneverdies: @fedor : Too many stores on PC, GOG, Steam, GOG etc... Rather have everything in 1 place

I tried GOG and it puts games all over my hard drive and I can't launch the games from central hub. I much rather have everything in one nice and neat list which Steam provides very well.

Then there's the casual trasnphobia CDPR puts out and never apologizes for. So they lost a ton of respect for that.

This sentence alone, tells the world you do not deserve to play PC games, but only get to watch others play them, off twitch or looking over your cousins shoulder, who never you have a turn.

@dragonsama: Dude, the games are DRM free, so if they're all over your hard drive, that's on you. And now they have Galaxy which I suppose acts as a hub service that manages and updates all your games along with providing multiplayer gaming. I don't use it so I can only repeat what the ads say.

@dragonsama: Convenience is nice, but it comes at the cost of freedom, DragonSama. The chains might already be too tight, but we cannot perceive it properly on account of our convenience bias.

That said, I do appreciate how neat Steam releases are at the install folder root level. GOG does place a lot of crap there, which I dislike. ICOs, INIs, hashes, scripts, and EULAs in several EU languages. None of which are required for the game to function. However, the mess is contained in my experience, and I don't even use their client application which provides what you seek in the form of a centralized hub.

@dragonsama: Ubisoft, EA, and Epic are the ones I feel need to lose their own launchers and store fronts the most, but that's just me.

There's no centralized location, but you could theoretically create a folder on your PC called Games or GOG games and install setup installer to install the games there. Alternatively, you can use their launcher.

@dragonsama:

You can easily add non-Steam games to Steam through the client (the little + button at the bottom left on the Steam client window). Just hit that, locate the .exe for the game, and voila: you can now launch them through Steam.

Wow, that's pretty cool. MGS is tricky since it's best on a big screen, sitting back and playing the stealth, but it also looks like ass at times.

I'm in for 1 more copy of it though~

So is MGS 3 is a no show as of yet? Bummer

@gargungulunk: MGS3/4 would require actual work from them, so not going to happen

@gargungulunk: Snake Eater was never ported to the PeeCee platform. I would assume these are re releases of olden ports done in the early 2000s, Gargun.

@asnakeneverdies: They are according to the comments I'm seeing in the reviews section at GoG. You might need to use some mods to fix a few issues.

These games were free in abandonia and now they decided to profit on that which fans had to find a solution for so that they could play on modern systems. Nice move!

Wish they'd bring in Silent Hill 1-4 on GOG as well as Origins.

@Jinzo_111887: They just might. This sort of thing is usually a foot in the door for other games from a publisher. Of course, it might also be a sign that Konami is done with MGS.

@gifford38: GOG is a digital store front like Steam. They have their own launcher, ratings, forums, and other stuff. The games can be installed from the launcher, but you can also sign into your account in your browser of choice and download installers and (if a game is too big for just a simple installer), the additional parts for it to go with it. The games have no DRM.

@gifford38: It stands for Good Old Games. It's run by the developers of the Witcher franchise.

It's like Steam.

@gifford38: Consider this an invitation to the PC crowd. If you prefer a controller over keyboard and mouse, the Steam client does have the ability to remap keyboard and mouse input to controller input and set up different types of controllers.

@DJSONIC: GOG is just GOG. It used to be Good Old Games but now they are just GOG as they are focusing on modern games as well these days.
