Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater Remake, Metal Gear Solid Collection Revealed

Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun and Naked Snake.

During the PlayStation Showcase earlier today, Konami confirmed the long-rumored remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, which is now called Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

The trailer started with a close-up of ants crawling toward a dead frog, which was then taken by a bird. Eventually, the bird lands on a log, where it is attacked by snakes and crocodiles. The camera then pans away from the fracas to a tree in the background, where Naked Snake emerges from the water. A press release confirms the "original voice characters" will star in the game, which should mean the return of David Hayter as Snake.

In addition, at the end of the trailer, a teaser screen for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 appeared on the screen, which confirms Metal Gear Solid, MGS2: Sons of Liberty, and MGS 3: Snake Eater will be coming to PlayStation 5 in Fall 2023. No specific date was provided.

Konami has released a statement on the game's official website, which states the team is "working hard" to make Snake Eater a "faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience." The statement also confirms that the MGS Master Collection will not only commemorate the franchise's 35th anniversary, but that it will "allow fans to play the games as they were, as first released on the latest platforms."

Reports of a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake began to intensify in February this year, with rumors that Konami was planning to have a big presence at E3. After E3 was canceled, new rumors claimed that the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake would first be shown off at the PlayStation Showcase, but that the game wouldn't be exclusive to that platform. In addition to the rumored Snake Eater remake, Konami is said to be working on a new Castlevania title.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is generally considered to be one of the best games in the series, as it featured inventive boss fights, innovative survival mechanics for its time, and sharp writing that told the origin story of Big Boss. The Subsistence version of the game significantly improved and fine-tuned the experience, turning it into an unmissable showcase of stealth, espionage, and cunning tactics.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

While the Metal Gear series is one of my favorite IP's of all time, it is a shame they are just re-releasing the original MGS on new consoles.

I can only hope that Konami doesn't screw this up. With Kojima gone we will NEVER, NOT EVER, get another true Metal Gear game. We all saw what Konami did after 5 shipped (the game we will never talk about) and it was just as bad as everyone said it was. While I'm a HUGE fan of Kojima, the man does sit on his laurels and take his sweet a$$ time making anything. The fact that he finally decided to start making Dead Standing 2 probably amazed everyone. However, the appearance of a Metal-Gear like ship sure had people talking.

Still, very much looking forward to the Snake Eater remake. Also, is the Master Collection going to be a remaster as well, remade or just made to work on modern systems? I already own the Master Collection on the PS3 and for some reason Sony did NOT make it backwards compatible in the store. A$$es.

@nintendians: Why use that trash gamepad? DualSense or Series X gamepads are superior

@hexenhammer: you call it trash, i call it perfect. also it depends how the user like their gamepad - i don't like all sony controllers since both thumbsticks on the bottom and it's dpad is more of a set of buttons vs nintendo and microsoft xbox's dpad, as for the xbox series x - it's okay, but it's triggers (rt and lt) kind of sucks compared to the xbox 360's triggers which the wii u pro controller have but instead of analog it's digital.

for me - i kind of find analog trigger suck for most genre and only good for racing game, since you could slow down a little bit before going back full speed during a turn.

@nintendians: You can use trigger stops for that.

The D-Pad lost its use in last 20 years, the sony way is the perfect way for whats its used now: switching weapons, opening maps, flashlight, medkits etc.

Try the Beitong ZEUS 2, its Chinese gamepad and feature-wise its the best gamepad on planet earth, not joking.

It size like original xbox 360 gamepad, but styled like series X gamepad.

The face buttons are not even mechanical but Optical [first gamepad to do it, like razer Hunstem keyboard, these have lowest sensitivity and they don't die].

Also the 4 face buttons are a removable module, can be swapped for: Optical, Mechanical or Softdome.

Rest of the buttons are mechanical ,like PC mouse, click click click, very quality and feels great.

D-Pad is either pure X or series-X type circle [both come included in basic bundle]

It has extra 6 Programmable buttons, 4 at the back, and 2 between LB-RB

Triggers have trigger stops, but only 2 modes, its the low point of gamepad, the trigger stop is not stopping close enough, about 40%, but good enough for shooters.

Triggers have xbox style motors for supported games but you can turn them on for all games, handles have 2 haptic motors that can sync with the trigger motors in software.

It has PC software and everything is programmable, it has REAL macro support, you can program keyboard + mouse + gamepad functions as macro [all the branded gamepads like xbox Elite or razer only let you re-program one button to the extra buttons, here you can do a whole macro, you can even let the game play itself, say if you play MMO you can mine resources using macro while you sleep]

It looks amazing, has wireless and cable mode [dongle included], has build in sound card with equyalizer, so the headphone out is not just audio out but you can equalize it.

Has Switch support.

Has Mouse emulation mode, you can press a button and computer/console thinks its a mouse, you move mouse with thumbstick and you can map the mouse buttons to any buttons on the gamepad.

Has that function i forgot its name [SixSense?] like on Dualsense and Switch where you move the gamepad in the air, works on switch and PC.

Not cheap but not super expensive [under 113$ on ali], check amazon and Aliexpress, i got on aliexpress.

Oh and software is in English and has tons of settings like thumb stick sensitivity, dead zone, if your thumbstick has drift you can fix it in software, rumble control, remapping ALL buttons not just the extra buttons

@hexenhammer: i check this one: https://www.betop-cn.com/en/#/productDetail?productId=46 out and seem to like it since it's triggers looks similar to a xbox 360 controller.

i don't mind analog triggers, most game i play doesn't require it much.

i haven't see a controller that looks similar to the wii u pro controller yet, but i'm good with the nintendo's official wii u pro controller.

the xbox one/series x and playstation controllers from 1 (dualshock) to 5 (dualsense)'s trigger are a wide and not narrow like wii u pro and xbox 360 controllers and i feel it sometimes i end press on it when i don't need to - but that might be my fault.

but thanks for the suggestion though.

@naomha1: out of the 8bitdo controller that i like it's the dpad - other than that, feel the same as a nintendo controller.

Good, MGS 3 was the only one I never played, so it would be good to play it finally. Now Sony needs to make a PS5 Slim because I have no place for that ugly behemoth of a console in my living room.

I'd rather have a remake for the original Metal Gear 1. I kind of consider metal Gear Solid 3, the Black sheep of the series. The game felt just too boring for my liking and not in par with the earlier games. So, i just don't understand what the whole thing was about remaking this game instead of a better one like the original game.

@angrycreep: To me MGS is the one a had more fun but MGS3 is the one I consider the best. From a structural point of view but most of all from a narrative point of view... and the Boss is the Boss...

MGS2 is also very good and MGS4 is good but the worst of them all at my eyes.

@angrycreep: I felt that way about MGS3 when it first came out but it has grown on me over the years. Dare I say, it has one of the best stories in the series.

@traptedmind: MGS4 has the better more bombastic story and its not a series of small rooms like MGS3.

Also it has modern controls, unlike 3 and 2.

I finished them both when the remake came out to psVita, was nice experience on that small screen and extra touch controls helped with the control scheme

I planned to replay it on PS3 emulator now, but maybe the re-release of this old remake trilogy on PS5 will be superior, maybe they add controls from MGS4? Hopefully, as an option

Oh Konami. Just let Sony buy you all out to save you guys from your own pathetic existence. What they did 10 years ago was great but they're not doing much now days.

MGS3 has been re-released and is still available to play on current consoles, well i know it is on xbox, so i'm not sure why it warrants a complete remake over any of the other games in the series.

That said the original Metal Gear games, and stories, would have been a great place to re-explore since they were last released with MGS3: subsistence and are the most outdated technologically.

I guess MGS3 is the "safest" game to remake but to me its probably one of the more boring games in the series.

Oh well i will be happy to get a playable PC version of MGS1 and the modding community will probably update the textures and whatnot.

Good God i have such little confidence in Konami after MetalGear Survive

and all the Pachinko crappycrap...

Truth is Metal Gear needs a whole new MetalGear saga.

Its not like the story was anything unique.

The gameplay mechanics & features were str8

innovation.. MGS FOB mode & the way it interacted with

the super hellish grind of higher tier unlocks

was probably peak enjoyment i had in a MGS/any game..

~I admit i no longer want/care for Kojima.

But but this remake could be amazing if done right

but this is like sports fans thinking EA is gonn a all of a sudden

start caring about Franchise mode next years Madden,FIFA,NHL etc

lmao as the odds are 1%

At least, the remaster collection has a definitive release date. I’m not optimistic that this one will be released any time soon. Considering that Konami hasn’t even released any concrete news for the Silent Hill 2 remake yet, this one will probably come out late next year at the earliest.

delta? sounds so lame lol. I hope the games will be closer to be a remaster than being a remake. for example mgs 1's gamecube remake was awful due to lots of changes and all. though I only care to play MGS 4 on PC

@probable: was it a decent game? yeah. was it a decent remake? no

people tend to think remake has to be different but in reality remake has to be improvement because otherwise what's the point of the remake? TBH their differences way more than the difference of the original re4 with its remake. for example in re4 remake the story gets stupid from the beginning, quick time action is removed but still the game pretty much the same while twin snake changes almost everything about the game in bad way. from voice acting, musics and gameplay to even key story moments. and the BS is even though kojima wasn't allowed in development of the remake he was in touch with the team and still the game turned out to be a bad remake. this time kojima doesn't even care about metal gear franchise so konami will turn it into something worst. I expect naked snake and the boss to be ex-lovers or something and ocelot is the bastard son of them lmao
