Michael Jackson experiences 2 million in sales

Wii version of Ubisoft dance game accounts for roughly 90 percent of sales; Xbox 360 and PS3 editions set for April 12 launch in North America, April 14 in Europe.

Ubisoft's blockbuster dance floor is getting a little crowded. The publisher already had one rhythm game hit on its hands with the Just Dance franchise, and today it confirmed a second with the announcement that it has sold more than 2 million copies of Michael Jackson The Experience since the game launched on the Wii, PSP, and DS in November.

Since when does a
Since when does a "perfect" crotch grab only get three stars?!?

The publisher cited its internal estimates for the figure, noting that the vast majority of those sales (nearly 90 percent) came on the Wii platform. Ubisoft expects the Wii edition to pass the 2 million threshold on its own by next week.

As if that weren't enough, The Experience is far from over. The current sales tally doesn't take into account the forthcoming Japanese launch of the game, nor does it include the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions, which Ubisoft has set for an April 12 release in North America. The European launch is set for April 14.

When Michael Jackson The Experience arrives on Sony's and Microsoft's consoles, it won't be a straight port of the Wii version. Ubisoft has incorporated compatibility with the systems' respective Kinect and Move motion-sensing peripherals and is adding new songs as well. Already confirmed for the new console versions are "Blood on the Dance Floor" and "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," with more to be announced.

Michael Jackson The Experience isn't the first game to feature the so-called "King of Pop." In 1989 and 1990, he was featured in the hit game Moonwalker, which debuted in arcades but eventually also made its way to home platforms, such as the Amiga, Commodore 64, MSX, and Sega Genesis. The latter version was recently rereleased on the Wii via the platform's Virtual Console retro-game emulator. He also made an appearance in the 2000 Dreamcast fan-favorite rhythm game Space Channel 5 as the character Space Michael and is due to receive his own massively multiplayer online role-playing game later this year.

@GOR_TAK, exactly right , and I didn't even made the typical MJ jokes which I think shouldn't be censored, but I just mentioned MJ in my comment, almost everything else is about GTA style of game. and I always do make such comments on other topics simply in this format, how about a Grand Theft [insert a word related to the news article here], then list a story that i make.

Was more than a little surprised when i heard about this game coming out, but with the success of Just Dance and Dance Central, i guess a dance game with MJ is not out of the question. A massively multiplayer online game, though? Um... what was the question again? I was lost in thought about terrible ideas.

@gamerpipe It's ridiculous, isn't it? You'd think we insulted the pope or made a cartoon of Mohamed. People need to get a sense of humor and stop worshiping their heroes as if they were gods. Give me a break GS! MJ is fair game for humor as much as anyone else. No need for the heavy handed Gestapo tactics.

Nothing against Wii, since I have one, but in this particular case the Kinect version will just rocks with a complete simulation, full body, and this "if" Monteral Ubisoft doesn´t make another bad kinect game, this should be task for Rare in my opnion.

I was trying to be nice, I made a joke not about MJ, but about GTA style of game. but it was removed as an offensive. so here is what I think in clear terms. this game is horrible. waste of time, and not even fun. it exploits MJ to makes money. Let him rest in peace. Please make real games. thanks

I'll be honest, I'm a huge Mike fan and I have and love this game. I want it for the connect so it will judge you by real moves and not just hand movements.

LeoLex_ Actually Michael Jackson didn't make the moonwalk. It's originally a breakdancing move called a back slide He even said he good the move from street performers. The robot he created but not the moonwalk.

Michael Jackson invented the moonwalk to make it look like he was moving away from kids when really he was moving to them.

I didn't expect it to sell this well. My wife wants this game though, so I may have to get it when it comes out on the XBox 360. MJ will be missed. His music was the best. I still have many of his CD's and will listen to them from time to time. I don't think he ever molested any kids. At times he had a child like mindset anyways.

I may not like a lot of MJ's actions in life, but i have to admit that some of the music he created was pure gold.

@XboxGuy1537 It's not a concern it's a question, Your original comment did not suggest you came here looking for sales. ""Meh, I don't care for Dance Games.""

Ubisoft learned a long time ago that hype sells. Exploiting the brand of a now-deceased pop celebrity is now a proven technique for that strategy. Next, we are probably going to see Ubisoft Kinect games involving Elvis (<< LINK REMOVED >>), Marilyn Monroe (<< LINK REMOVED >>) or some other passed-on artiste known for having trademark poses. Yet, I also get the hunch that the next Ubisoft Kinect dance game will be about Saturday Night Fever (<< LINK REMOVED >>). Or Grease (<< LINK REMOVED >>). Anything that harks back to an era of dance - of any popular kind - would be free game to Ubisoft.

I bought the game out of curiosity and ended up finding it hilariously enjoyable when playing with friends. And some songs are extremely demanding - try Thriller and Smooth Criminal and you will know. We had fun but we sweat like no tomorrow lol They should have included camera capturing to watch back our own performance for a laugh LOL
