Microsoft confirms $99 Xbox 360

So essentially the thing costs 459 dollars. Just financing the damn thing over time with interest. No thanks.

Ahah . . . Well, apparently Microsoft is desperate. This price proves nothing, it's a crime they even sell them at the price they do right now, 300$, for the same price they sold it when it launched. It's a fossil and no one should look to buy it right now, so they drop the price considerably, but this, of course, comes at a costly price.

15/$ a month (Also, WTF?? More reason to choose PS3 or PC over that) x 12 months x 2 years... Well, let's just say Microsoft is the one really earning here, not you.

This is crap. To me, it's an underhanded way to get at least some people used to paying a larger overall fee for Xbox Live.

Just sounds like a standard finance interest bearing deal. If you really want to get a console on Hire purchase just go to a retailer that would offer interest free and you could get yourself a 250GB console and gold membership instead of paying interest on a 4GB console

I think the worst part about this is that the console they are selling is only 4gb like seriously this is bound to fail.. money grubbing bastards i tell you, as someone else posted you can get a 250gb kinect bundle for like 400 bucks instead

So they wanna get ppl gaming but take more money as opposed to to the other option available. If u cant afford it in 1 go, i understand that. But y pay more in the long run? Just save that hard earned money & dont touch it. & eventually u'll get the xbox that u want for cheaper.

I think this is awesome. Not everyone has $300 to put in a gaming system right away.

The funny thing is last fall during Black Friday one of the stores I shop at regularly was offering the 4GB for $99. They had about 20 in a stack and they were gone in less than five minutes, with some putting two or three in their cart. You know some of those went on eBay for a profit.

i actually quite like the idea, its similar to the way smartphone contracts work and we dont complain about those

it is the wrong time for it though, who is going to commit to a 2 year subscription to a console that is so old and will most probably be replaced before then

if they launch their next gen system with the option of a similar pricing strategy though i will be interested, cause i would be paying for the xbox live anyway, so the lower entry fee could be an attractive offer if the pricing was right.....

While this certainly isn't for me, I don't believe M$ is targeting people who are able to willingly drop $200 in a single swipe. If you have cheap parents or are just broke in general, 15/mo isn't bad, especially if you think of it like a credit plan. Not only does it save you from dropping an immediate $100 at the register, but if you bought a 4gb/kinect via cc or in store account, you would be playing nearly double that in interest over 2yrs anyway.

Ehhh . . . Like I said before in the last topic, my current Xbox 360 for three years running is working pretty good so I won't need to invest into a new one that would end up costing me an arm and a leg.

A 250 GB Kinect Bundle is $400. While it might be smarter (depending on how much space you need) to cancel the Gold subscription immediately, play local, and save about $50 - this doesn't seem like that great of an idea. We'll see.

Just when I thought Microsoft couldn't possibly get any stupider. Focus on the next gen Xbox Microsoft, keep it RRoD free and under $500.

Seriously? Microsoft must really believe that the human race are a bunch of mindless fools. Even my 12 year old son laughed at this offer and said the subscribtion would probably out last the system. Then what? :)

If you go on newegg every now and then they have sales on 1 year xbox live subscriptions for 30 dollars, 40 is more common, but at least once/year 30. So 60 bucks for 2 years. Means total cost of this console minus that 60 is 400. Or you could just go buy it for 200. Or get one with a hard drive and game bundle for 250. Very lame $soft. If they dropped it to 10/month though it could make sense for those who don't want to spend as much up front. And yeah, not including the kinnect since that offers no value at all. bluelion guy, RROD hasn't been an issue since the launch consoles. Nothing like PS3 disc errors, caused by that shitty blue ray. At least Microsoft spend 4 BILLION to fix their mistake, Sony just made you buy a new console. FoxExecutive, Playstation online is a joke, that's why it's free.

Uhh aren't xbox live subscriptions only $60 a year? Meaning regulars subscription is only $5 a month.

At $15/month for two years is $360! Here is some better advice, buy a PS3 and get a monthly subscription for free! In addition, you get a blu-ray player. For the 360, just say, "Let's not and say we did."
