Microsoft Is Pushing For No "Red Line" For What Games Could Come To PlayStation - Report

More Xbox games are reportedly coming to PlayStation.

Microsoft is reportedly pushing to have no "red line" or restrictions when it comes to putting Xbox games onto PlayStation.

According Windows Central, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood are mandating increasing margins across all departments. While franchises like Minecraft and Call of Duty have always been on multiple platforms even after Microsoft purchased their developers, now the conversation is reportedly involving putting even more games on rival platforms like PlayStation.

Reportedly, there's an internal plan within Microsoft codenamed "Latitude," which is focused on moving Xbox games onto other platforms, and there are already more Microsoft games that will be coming over to PlayStation.

However, it seems like there's some debate and discussion surrounding the initiative as to whether it's a good idea. If Microsoft puts more of its games onto more platforms, that would potentially decrease the reasons to even purchase an Xbox console.

Earlier this year, Microsoft revealed that it'd be porting Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, Grounded, and Hi-Fi Rush to other platforms. In particular, Sea of Thieves performed incredibly well, as it was in the top 25 best-selling games on PlayStation 5 last month.

Interesting to see what else Microsoft brings to Playstation 5 later this year. I definitely see it more on a case by case bases on how well their games sell on PS5.

Of course their greed will bring them here. I am going to spell it out for ya. MS is DONE, with all caps!!!! Yes, they will chase their clouds and mobile gaming, but this will not be for many of us here and is fine for the casual gamer. They cannot handle larger studios and game development, simply CANNOT! Their the type that want to create a product and squeeze the living hell out of it for all eternity without a whole lot of effort.

They will show their non-E3 show on June 9th and with our bitter tastes we will be very skeptical and reluctant to bite on new games. The suits will come to the stage smiling and lying their teeth off with their catch phrases and they will once again talk down to us....we love working with our partners and want to make so many average games accessible to everyone.... They will mention gamepASS 50x and continue to want to standardize the industry into least effort and average games, because that will be the only way they can makeup for low sales...is to lower the time, effort and cost of games.

This is a snowball effect, so that by 2026 they will release their new hardware and the sales will be so low, that by 2030 they will basically give up on XB and push Cloud gaming earlier for the gen thereafter.

Most of their games will be non-single player and online games that can be taken away from you at any time. Why would I want to pay hundreds of dollars for that, to a company that will most likely not be relevant to hard-core gamers in a few years?

I don't want this to happen, but I don't see a way out of it. They are digging their graves faster and deeper!!!!

If I had to guess the reasons for this push I'd point to Hellblade II as the prime reason. I'm sure it will be a fine game but I don't think the Xbox audience is the right audience for the game. It remains a breakout success story on PS4 and had the majority of it's sales there. There isn't any real solid numbers for Gamepass or Xbox/Switch sales but by the time the game approached a million units sold it was still a PS4 exclusive. They confirmed that there were millions more who played BUT the game was free for a time on PS4 AND it's available for free on Gamepass.

If true, I really see no reason to ever buy another Xbox again. Really hope it ain't, cause it's never gonna be reciprocated by PS.

@rabidgiantsr: It doesn't necessarily have to be reciprocated to be the best business decision for Microsoft. The whole is to make money and a move like this, hypothetically, would attain that end. Xbox sales are paltry in comparison to Playstation, and largely always have been. That does not trend to be changing. So if they ditch the hardware all together, or make the next one a sort of stream only cloud box or something, they can concentrate more on the software, which is the money maker to begin with. Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones, theoretically the next Fallout, Elder Scrolls... take your pick, they are wasted on Xbox.

@BIG_BOSS_927: I get all that, but again, no competition is very bad for us the consumers. Without Xbox we will not be treated well by PS.

It's not a waste on Xbox. There are 30 million of us. That's not an insignificant number, it's just low by comparison this gen. It can change very quickly (PS2 to Xbox 360).

Of course they will.

Xbox tested the waters with 4 games...2 of them didnt do well, 2 of them did great on Playstation.

So Xbox has to find a way to bring games to PS without making hardcore Xbox gamers too angry.

@sladakrobot: At this point the hardcore xbox fanboys just does not matter. 'raises hand'. The market share vs 'MS games division costs' is just too wide. They will have to open up to a broader market or just vanish. But, MS graveyard is huge, filled with startups, divisions, products, and buyout that were only bought for it to die. And since MS is now a 3 trillion dollar company, ms games division is nothing more then a rounding error.

The days of gotta spend money to make money, is over.

I really do wish there was at least 3-4 strong AAA gaming platforms this 9th gen, instead of just one. We as gamers desperately need competition in this industry.

@jenovaschilld: Your last paragraph is spot on. If Xbox doesn't do well, it's the consumers that will pay. Without competition, PlayStation is very arrogant.

@rabidgiantsr: IF history has shown... who ever is in the lead, screws the gamers every time, why... because they can, and their investors demand it. Not arrogance, just business.

From Atari, nintendo, PS, and when xbox 7th gen had tons of momentum going into 8th gen, Mattrick and Balmer, wanted a 'living room experience'. Always online, anti used games, and more... Before back peddling.

I was a midnight launch adopter of ps2, dreamcast, xbox, xbox 360, and nintendo in there as well. Not a fanboy for platforms, but for the games. And right now, we have too few players in the AAA games publisher spaces. I can maybe think of a dozen publishers that can release a quality AAA game per year ... consistently. And these publishers do NOT want to see more games, they NEED to see fewer in order to protect their IPs and position in the market.

I mean, the games industry is bigger then movies, music and probably tv combined, yet when we think about how many studios and production studios is in those fields as compared to gaming publishers. It reminds me of the early years of Hollywood movies, where you had few studios. And actors, directors, and writers were in contracts with a studio, controlling what is produced.

If PS is the only platform left, that will not be good, just as bad is if MS is the only one. Nintendo has found their own walled garden and niche. Their board wants a bigger market share, but not at the risk of investing, to the point of losing their niche market.

I think all platforms - consoles, DDPs like Steam, epic, and mobile - will all start migrating towards stead deck and or stead deck like devices. The market growth is huge, and this next gen or gamers, just do not seem interested in anything beyond a mobile like device. So the long game seems to be steam deck like devices, for now.

10th and 11th gen of gaming will be very interesting.

@jenovaschilld: don't disagree with any of it. Bottom line ... we need healthy competition.

I've jumped between Nintendo, PC, Xbox, and PS main. Just came off a long PS run, back to Xbox. If they go down this path I may just go the route you mention .. back to PC and the Steam Deck.

@mooglestar: well, PS5 sells and XBox Series S/X doesn’t, so it’s all about supply and demand. The same way many developers and publishers do whatever it takes to release their games on Switch, even when they run like crap on it.

@mooglestar: I'm confused about a one way transaction. Does Xbox not get a stellar baseball game yearly from Sony? In exchange they sent 4 middle of the road games to Playstation, 2 of which were mediocre. One way indeed. 1 AAA game for 1 great game (Hi-Fi Rush), 1 game that is about to be swallowed up by the new king of pirate games from Ubisoft, and 2 games not even worth mentioning seems like a one way transaction the other way.

@ebonyflame: Oh I see. So PS5 users get a couple dozen games (eventually) and Xbox gets a baseball game. They sure came out great there 😄
