Midway put a volley of titles on display at the VGS offices, including SF Rush and Mace.

The folks at Midway Entertainment stopped by the GS offices this week with a volley of Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64 games. Here's what they had to show.

San Francisco Rush (Nintendo 64)The N64 port of Atari Games' incredibly fun, happily unrealistic racer appears to be continually improving every time we see it. With a pile of new modes, secrets, and tracks over the arcade version, this title looks like the racer to beat this Christmas. While the Sony PlayStation version was still nowhere to be seen, both versions are due out in mid-November.

Top Gear Rally (Nintendo 64)The Boss Games Studios-created, happily realistic N64 racer was also looking impressive, with some of the coolest graphical effects seen in any racing game. Top Gear Rally is reportedly set for release for the N64 next month.

Midway Presents Midway's Arcade's Greatest Hits Vol. 2 (Sony PlayStation)Midway's latest classics collection is due in October and includes Spy Hunter, Splat, Moon Patrol, Root Beer Tapper, Joust 2, Blaster, and BurgerTime. The standouts are, of course, Spy Hunter, Root Beer Tapper, and BurgerTime.

Mace: The Dark Age (Nintendo 64)The frame rate of this arcade fighting game port was much improved since last time we saw it, almost moving as fast as its coin-op cousin. The Sony PlayStation version wasn't present, but both versions are due out in mid-November.

NBA Fastbreak '98 (Sony PlayStation) The basketball game formerly known as Hardwood Heroes was also moving faster than before. The Nintendo 64 version, planned for early '98, was not on display. NBA Fastbreak '98 for the Sony PlayStation is intended for an October release.

Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey '98 (Sony PlayStation, Nintendo 64)Midway brought Gretzky '98 for the Nintendo 64 for the first time. The title sports larger players and the improved AI makes it much harder than last year's model. What amounted to a demo reel was shown for the Sony PlayStation, which, while having potential, still looked quite early. Both are set to ship this month.

In related news, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero on the Sony PlayStation is set for release within the next two weeks.
