Mirror's Edge Catalyst Map Is "Huge," Dev Says

"The whole city will be explorable."

Just how big is the map in DICE's upcoming free-running sequel, Mirror's Edge Catalyst? Pretty big, apparently. The developer has released an interactive 3D map that shows off the game's Anchor District.--and this is just one of the explorable spaces in the game.

"The whole city will be explorable," DICE said on Twitter. Today we've only shown you the Anchor district, but more will follow." A follow-up tweet mentioned about the entire map, "It's huge. And we'll show you more in the coming weeks. Excited?"

Head to the Catalyst website to poke around the 3D interactive map to learn more.

GameSpot recently played Catalyst and our hands-on impressions can be found here. The game was originally expected to launch on May 24, but after a delay, it's now due out on June 7 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

One reason for the delay was to give DICE extra time to address the feedback it received from Catalyst's closed beta. "We're confident that these extra two weeks will make sure the game is as amazing as possible for you the players," the developer said when announcing the postponement.

Oh god, it's an open world now? Let me guess, you have to climb to the top of buildings to "scout" areas?

@Thanatos2k: surprisingly, no! It's just a bunch of fetch quests and time trials.

The big question for me is how big will it feel and how empty will it feel.

It's easy for devs to tout a large map but that means absolutely nothing if your character moves really fast (which Faith obviously does) and can traverse the distance quickly and means even less if it feels empty or is just packed with boring content like fetch quests. Yes your map is big but what about the game will incentivize me to care to explore it.

@phoenix1289: Judging from the beta I tried I'd start to worry. The map felt very empty. NPC's just standing on rooftops or other odd places waiting for you to talk to them. Then they give you a fetch quest. I know it was a small section of a map I played but you ended up running through the same places over and over and got fairly repetitive quickly. The upgrade system seems to be there to hinder you from exploring alternative routes early on. For instance I had to upgrade Faith in order to be able to do the 360 degree turn wall jump thing. The beta has reigned in my optimism for this game. I adored the original except for the guns obviously.
