Miyamoto Really Enjoyed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Here's Why
"I was very impressed with what they were able to do."
Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto enjoyed a number of movies in 2015, but one of his favorites was Disney's Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens. He says in a new interview with Game Informer that he wasn't sure it would be able to live up to the originals--but he ended up being pleasantly surprised.

"It was a movie that I was very worried about. I really enjoyed the original three movies," he said. "But as they started to rely more on CG and computer graphics, I gradually stopped watching the Star Wars movies."
"I felt that for the people who were taking that on that it was a very big challenge for them," he added. "My expectation is that they'd maybe find a way to barely meet that challenge. But when I saw that movie, I was very impressed with what they were able to do."
Miyamoto went on to say that, as a creator himself, he respected Disney's ability to "take on the challenge and bring back some of the feelings that people had the first time they watched the movies."
In particular, Miyamoto said he enjoyed how actors from the original trilogy returned for The Force Awakens. "As a fan, it was a really great movie," he said.
Game Informer also asked Miyamoto about his favorite games of 2015. He stayed in-house with his responses, calling out Splatoon ("they've introduced a whole new genre of shooter") and Super Mario Maker, which he said he was particularly pleased with because of its cross-generational appeal.
Another industry veteran, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, also recently talked about his favorite movies of 2015. Like Miyamoto, Kojima also enjoyed The Force Awakens. You can see Kojima's full top ten list of his favorite 2015 films here.
