Miyamoto, Spore receive Jim Henson awards

I fail to see why people feel the need to rant about how spore was such a letdown. In my opinion, it would be more realistic to rant about how gullible people are! The technical specifications of what was "originally planned" were beyond what we could reasonably expect for the rest of that year, much less within the release date. I think DRM was a far worse letdown than spore. As for Miyamoto, I don't really see why he didn't get this sooner, though I fail to see why Wii Fit was credited TOWARDS this award as opposed to against it. It's an application, a computer utility, if you will. NOT a grand advancement in gaming. Honestly, if they release spore expansion packs like they did with the sims, we should see what they promised and much more. Look at what they've done with G.A. already, and once the mod community kicks into gear, we'll have a lot to do. P.S. Even if you say spore should've given more after that, it still deserves it for the engine, and the potential said engine carries.

I don't understand why everybody is hating on Spore!! Yes it was a little dull and boring, but it allso was a game of firsts! It brought a whole new light to the gaming world, with its creative waY of life, to its GIANT 'world' you can explore all in one game! EA may be a little cheap and selfish, but it has produced the greatest and best selling PC franchise of all time, The Sims! The Sims is not only that, but it is also the 3rd most popular video game franchise of all time, behind Mario and Pokemon! The Sims 3 is coming in less then a month, and that game will surely top the charts again, just like its cousins, but it could very well become the most popular video game of 09!! So even though EA has 'robbed' us of some money, it still deserves some recognition for its wonderful games they have brought to our world! :D

spore is an AWSOME and MINDBLOWING GAME its gameplay is pretty cool,but a bit complicated to understand though.BUT STILL ITS GREAT!!!

I can see Miyamoto getting one for all the work he's done over the years. For a tech award spore is deserving but everything else probably not so much.

Anyone who thinks Spore should get an award should be slapped.

Miyamato should have been given this reward sooner. As for Spore, it's indeed a creative game...but shouldn't the creativity add to the fun? The game is fun for a little while...but...nothing else adds to the game once you have the basis of the game down. LittleBigPlanet deserved this reward more while Spore should have been an honorary mention or something close to it.

That's pretty frickin cool, if you ask me. I'm old enough to remember Jim Henson when he brought one of his muppets (Rolf) on to the Arsenio Hall Show. He seemed like a cool dude. Same with Bob Ross (Mr. Happy Trees).

Heh..if you want to talk about a mindless game, Spore is a borefest, unlike many violent games out there.

I'm just glad Spore got the award, and not some of the other mindless violent games that are out there.

There are so many FPS and violent games and I don't think those games deserved it. There is NO creativity, just shooting and no real aspects that make it different. Spore, well it was more creative rather than fun though it was still fun. I've never seen a game so creative, original and imaginative as Spore. Spore and Miyamoto deserved those awards. Pity that "Wii Music" was the last of the "Big 4". He's an absolute legend.

creative? Let me break it down for you Stage 1: the old "eat the small fish and get bigger, avoid the big fish" game we've seen a million times. Fl0w did it a year ago, hell, the old fishing DOS game I played as a kid did it. Stage 2: Basically a sloppy, half-assed hack and slash rpg Stage 3: A sloppy, half-assed RTS Stage 4: A sloppy, half-assed flight/action game. Wow, creative indeed. So creative that in stage 3, all the attack animations are identical. So creative that save for some chanting and a giant genie, "religious conversion" and a military battle look more or less identical. Simply amazing. A+!

DRM, surely that contradicts the whole part of the technology side of spore, a fantastic game runied by EA asking you where you stole the game from. Mugs.

truely deserved, much love to any game developers who reinvent gameplay or the way regular people approach gaming, the guy is a genius.

Spore to me just seems like a very intelligent, difficult to make, and fun game, which is truly creative. Some recent Wii games, such as Wii Fit, are also a new idea, as they are truly good for the body, as the entire Wii is better for the body than button mashing. It helps with dexterity if not actually working on arm muscles a little bit. These are very good choices to be awarded in such a manner.

congratulation Mr.Miyamoto,wii fit might not be the hardcores choice for gaming,but i most admit that the wii and its software has opened new oppotunities and given good result the past two years,wii and wii-fit is a testament of Miyamoto's creativity and how he gives us somrthing back in return,knowledeg,happiness,the way gaming has always meant to be,i hope other developers try to do this as well,and not always the mindless ideas they have most of the time.

Say, what you will, I like Spore and how creative it is. The technology is really very impressive--just look at all the different things people have created! I also think it's amazing that you can have a whole galaxy of functioning planets and not have lag. Note: drm is no longer an issue. They released a patch which more or less circumvents this issue.

Spore isn't deserving of any awards. It was a massive innovation and half of its innovation simply involved half-assedly mashing up as many genres of PC gaming as possible.

Spore was a bunch of mini games.
