Monopoly Is Doing Away With One Of Its Iconic Pieces

Earlier this year, Hasbro let fans vote on eight Monopoly pieces that should be included in future editions of the iconic board game. This meant that some of the original pieces were subject to getting cut--and that has indeed happened. The month-long fan vote has ended, and the thimble did not make the top eight, meaning it will be stricken from upcoming versions of the game.

More than 4 million votes were placed, Hasbro said in a statement. "Despite being an integral part of day-to-day life when the token was originally added to the game in 1935, the lucky Thimble has lost its 'shine' with today's fans, and will be retired from the game," the company explained.

Hasbro will reveal the final results of its fan vote on World Monopoly Day, March 19. That's when we'll learn which eight pieces are going to be featured in new editions of Monopoly, which will go on sale in August. Some of the new pieces that fans could vote for included a penguin, a television, a race car, the Mr. Monopoly emoji, a rubber duck, a watch, a wheel, and a bunny slipper.
