Monster Hunter Movie Actress Milla Jovovich Talks At Cannes

Jovovich calls the movie "incredible."

The Monster Hunter movie is steadily moving along, as producers Constantin Film and Impact Pictures--the team behind the Resident Evil movie franchise--locked down a 2020 release date earlier this year. Lead actress Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil series, Hellboy) spoke about the upcoming fantasy action flick at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

In a brief interview, Variety asked Jovovich what fans should look forward to next. Jovovich immediately quipped back with "Oh, Monster Hunter 2020!" She then described the movie as "incredible" before giving some quick context. She says that training for the movie is hard but it makes her "mentally more able to deal with the overwhelming experiences that we all go through in our lives." You can check out her thoughts on the movie below.

Now Playing: New Monster Hunter Movie Gets More Plot And Casting Details - GameSpot Universe News Update

The Monster Hunter movie stars Tony Jaa (Furious 7, XXX: Return of Xander Cage), Clifford "T.I." Joseph Harris Jr. (Ant-Man, Entourage), Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Pacific Rim), Diego Boneta (Before I Fall, Rock of Ages), Meagan Good (Don Jon, Shazam!), Josh Helman (Jack Reacher, X-Men: Days of Future Past), and Jin "MC Jin" Au-Yeung (2 Fast 2 Furious, The Man with the Iron Fists).

We got some details about the movie's plot last year. Jovovich plays Artemis, the leader of a United Nations military team who gets sucked into a different universe featuring monsters. Jovovich's character will team up with the Hunter, played by Tony Jaa, and the two must work together to close an open portal to prevent the monsters from invading Earth. In a statement to Variety, Capcom said, "Along the way, viewers will make new discoveries and encounter familiar faces and beloved characters from the games like the Admiral" (played by Ron Perlman).

Monster Hunter is set to release on September 4, 2020.

Tony Jaa is an amazing martial artist. If they give him a lot of opportunity to showcase his skills it could make up for a lot of shortcomings elsewhere in the film, so I'll remain cautiously optimistic. That said, the subject matter doesn't seem to cater to a lot of great martial arts sequences, so hopefully they'll find a way to make good use of his presence in the cast.

I like Milla, but seeing her in the cast of any movie nowadays means it’s gonna be a stinker

More terrible, predictable casting.

Repeat slo-mo RE series CG-fest...

sounds pretty horrible, and i don't even think that fits with the game really . other then it has monsters in it. haven't played the recent game, maybe i'm wrong, but i don't remember any portals in the one i played.

"Jovovich calls the movie "incredible.""

really?? like she's going to say "hey this movie i'm in is going to completely suck, you should not see it"

only Jim Carey would do that.

I wonder if she blackmails him with sex. I mean no one else seems to ever cast her.

I just cant see her as anything other than that weirdo in the fifth element who kept screaming "multipass" over and over.

Also capcom, please stop giving this man your beloved franchises to ruin.

It sounds like yet another Paul WS Anderson movie ruined by shoehorning Milla’s completely unnecessary character into it.

I would see this for Tony Jaa. I will not see this for Milla Jovovich.

This movie is going to be garbage, just like the Resident Evil movies.
