Monster Hunter Wilds Sales Are Way Higher Than World At Launch In The US
Monster Hunter World is the best-selling game in Capcom's history.
Monster Hunter Wilds launched in February and sold more than 8 million copies over its first three days, becoming Capcom's fastest-selling game ever. But how is it selling in the US? Also very well, it seems.
Circana's Mat Piscatella confirmed that sales of the the RPG in terms of dollar sales in the first month in the US were more than 40% higher than those of Monster Hunter: World in January 2018. With more than 21 million copies sold, Monster Hunter World is Capcom's best-selling game of all time globally.
Wilds is now the No. 1 best-selling game of 2025 so far in the US. Another key fact is that launch-month dollar sales of Wilds in the US more than doubled the total of Monster Hunter: Rise for its March 2021 debut. Of note, Rise was initially only available on Switch before coming to PC and console.
Wilds is performing particularly well in the US on Steam, which accounts for more than half of the game's total dollar sales so far, Circana said. Wilds reached more than 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam at launch, becoming the No. 5 most popular Steam game of all time.
Overall, the Monster Hunter franchise is the second-best-selling Capcom franchise of all time, with Resident Evil still holding the top spot.
"There are a few missteps along the way--of both an artistic and technical variety--but Wilds is another excellent entry in Capcom's beloved series," Richard Wakeling wrote in GameSpot's Monster Hunter Wilds review.
