Monster Hunter World PS4 Beta Size, More Details Revealed

Here's when the beta begins and how much space you'll need to download it.

Monster Hunter World is one of the first major releases of 2018, arriving for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at the end of January (with a PC release following later). However, PS4 players won't have to wait until then for a chance to try the game. As Capcom announced during Sony's Paris Game Week conference, a Monster Hunter World PS4 beta will take place this weekend, and now the publisher has shared exactly when it will begin and what it entails. You can also check out our Monster Hunter World review.

The beta kicks off this Saturday, December 9, at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM GMT and runs until the same time on Tuesday, December 12. As is typically the case, you'll need a PS Plus subscription in order to participate in the beta, as well as 5.9 GB of space available on your console to download it.

The beta features three quests across two environments: the Ancient Forest and Wildspire Waste. In the Ancient Forest, players will be able to hunt the Great Jagras and the Anjanath, while Wildspire Waste is home to the rock-headed Barroth. You can watch us footage of us successfully hunting the latter from Tokyo Game Show.

Each quest can be completed either solo or with up to three other players. You'll also be able to choose from all 14 different weapon types, which you can test out in the Training Room. Additionally, Capcom says players who complete each mission in the beta will earn "some useful bonus items" in the full title when it releases next month.

You can read more about the Monster Hunter World PS4 beta on Capcom's blog. The game launches for PS4 and Xbox One on January 26; Capcom still hasn't announced a release date for the PC version. The PS4 version will receive at least one exclusive DLC weapon set based on Horizon Zero Dawn.

New to the series, had a go on it and beat the jagras while a million pop ups told me to do something, but I found just slashing away did the trick. Obviously the easiest enemy to kill in the game, but was pretty bored by it.

Looks nice, and maybe the full game will be better when you haven't got a time limit to get a handle on precisely WTF is going on.

So all you do in this game is hunt monsters, after a while it will feel boring and repetitive.

@hardcoregamer1: Thanks for letting us know you are the biggest noob here Mr "hardcoregamer1". Is Dark Souls boring? all you do is go down linear paths till you get to the next boss fight? The fact there are so many monsters it never really gets boring plus each hunt can take between 20 to 60 minutes to complete depending on your skill.

@uubershikamarux: so people have the weekend to enjoy it at the start. i dislike when we get launches on a weekday when me and a billion other have to work and then avoid the internet for spoilers

@untouchables111: But it's an extra day it's open. And you can play in the evening. And it's a beta, there's nothing worth "spoiling" in a beta.

@Xristophoros: the 3DS versions have been pretty great. They have 100's of hours worth of gameplay. if you have a 3DS you should check them out.

@dkidfrmdbx: i felt the series was being held back being on handhelds to be honest... the control scheme of a handheld could never live up to playing on a tv with a proper controller. mh was never meant for the small screen in my opinion. i don't have a 3ds but might get one when nintendo finally drops the price to something more reasonable... the new 2ds still sells for $200 for some reason...

@Xristophoros: I bought a 3DS for Pokemon and Xenoblade but kept it for MH4 Ultimate. Such an amazing game, but I agree I would enjoy it 100x more on consoles.

Monster Hunter is getting a handheld release next year called MHStories though that also looks fantastic.
