More Duke Nukem coming
Duke Nukem Forever's critical lashing won't stop IP holder Gearbox from continuing to develop the crass shooter series, says Take-Two CEO.
After 14 years of development, Duke Nukem Forever went on sale last week in the face of witheringly negative reviews. However, all the bad press in the world apparently can't keep the Duke down, according to Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. Speaking with Forbes, the executive said that the publisher is planning to release more games based on the foul-mouthed action hero.
"We don't really talk about it in detail, but you will see future Duke [intellectual property] coming from this company," said the executive when asked if a Duke Nukem movie or TV series might be in the offing.
Curiously, Zelnick dodged a question about ownership of the Duke Nukem IP, which belongs to Borderlands developer Gearbox Software. The suburban Dallas shop picked up the rights to the shooter franchise from creator 3D Realms in September 2010, several months after the latter company suspended development of Duke Nukem Forever after nearly 14 years of work. Publishing rights for Duke Nukem games remain with Take-Two, which released the latest installment in the series under its 2K Games label.
