Last Day To Pre-Order Mortal Kombat 11 And Get Its Pre-Order Bonuses (US)
We're just a day away!
We're nearing the end of April, which means the release date for NetherRealm's Mortal Kombat 11 is almost here--the game will launch on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch on Tuesday, April 23. Since announcing the game at the 2018 Game Awards, the studio has revealed official gameplay, some playable characters, fighter customizations, and an expensive Kollector's edition. Now is your last chance to pre-order if you're interested in securing its pre-order bonus--a playable character, Shao Kahn.
Mortal Kombat 11's playable character roster includes several franchise favorites, like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya, Jax, and Raiden. A recent trailer announced that Kitana, another series mainstay, will join the roster. Other returning characters include Erron Black, Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, and Johnny Cage. Besides previous characters, new fighters will also join the fray, including time-manipulator Geras and elder god Cetrion. Another new character was also revealed recently: the Kollector, a four-armed servant of the Outworld Empire.
Combat uses a new graphics engine "showcasing every skull-shattering, eye-popping moment," a description that is appropriate given our look at the game's gruesome and bloody Fatalities. NetherRealm has also been touting the custom character variations in the upcoming Mortal Kombat, which are designed to give you "unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own."
Our Mortal Kombat 11 review-in-progress is now live, which you can read for a look at what to expect. In it, Edmond Tran writes, "MK11 isn't just a sequel for series fans and Netherrealm devotees, it's a gateway into the realm of fighting games for anyone who has a passing interest in watching ruthless warriors beat each other silly. Streamlined mechanics keep the act of fighting furiously exciting no matter what your skill level, and comprehensive tutorials encourage you to dig into the nitty-gritty. There's a diverse roster of interesting characters and playstyles, and the story mode is an entertaining romp. The unfulfilling approaches to the game's dynamic single-player content and progression may feel like they've totally whiffed (at least at this early stage), but Mortal Kombat 11 hits where it matters."
A closed beta for those who pre-ordered the game for Xbox One or PS4 was held March 28 through 31--here's what that gameplay looked like. And if you're curious how Mortal Kombat 11 runs on Nintendo Switch, we got the chance to try it out at PAX East, and the fighting mechanics are smoother than ever (although there is a slight visual downgrade).
Whether you're a longtime fan of the series or simply want to give this one a try, you might be wondering what you get for pre-ordering. Here are the prices and perks for ordering every edition of the game, including a couple of sweet pre-order bonuses.

The Kollector's Edition offers the most bang for the most buck, including the game's premium edition (with Kombat Pack), a steelbook case, a collector's box, and a 1:1 scale Scorpion mask (which isn't wearable). It comes at a steep price, however, and at least in the US, it will be a GameStop exclusive.
