MotoGP 09/10 New Track Impressions

A new circuit is arriving in June, and we take it for a test-drive.

MotoGP 09/10 is an interesting experiment in the predictable world of annual sports games. Rather than release two separate games for the 2009 and 2010 MotoGP seasons, Capcom has elected to bundle both years into one retail release and continue to support the latter season with ongoing downloadable content. It's a bold move--the equivalent of EA releasing a new Madden game encompassing the 2009 season and following that up with a free roster update for the following year. Among the first such bits of DLC is a new track that this motorcycle racing league didn't compete on last year, but will in 2010. We took a quick spin through that new circuit at last week's Captivate event to see what they've got in store for fans of two-wheeled racing.

The track we played was Silverstone. This one's a popular destination for racing games (it has been featured in the last two Forza Motorsport games), so odds are you've raced a circuit or two at Silverstone in the past. The track configuration in MotoGP is a little on the short side, with one long straight between the grand stands being the only real opportunity to gun it on an otherwise very twisty course. Visually, it's a flat track set beneath a gloomy sky that manages to capture that collision of green and gray that makes up so much of the English countryside. Altogether, this one felt and looked a lot like the Silverstone we've raced in numerous racing games before.

Right now the two tracks is still very much a work in progress, as evidenced by a racing assist line that told us to drive in the grass more often than not. But the scheduled June release leaves plenty of time to work out those kinks. For more on MotoGP 09/10, be sure to read our review.

Editor's Note: This story originally included details on a second track, Hungary's Baltonring, which was included alongside Silverstone in the demo we played. However, Capcom has since confirmed with us that this track will not be released as originally planned.

the demo is available on ps3.. the graphics are quite s**tty and the gameplay is alright but boring - I could play the demo occasionally without feeling like needing the full game

i wish more games did this. bundled two years into one game and then put out a lot of DLC. there aren't always huge changes that need to be made, but sometimes just more options for continued play.

Silverstone has a new layout later this year... the changes were partially inspired to improve MotoGP as it adds another major overtake point and removes a twisty section at top speed through a short, very narrow tunnel. Both the old and new have a "short track" version on top of the full GT track, so I'm wondering which year and layout they drove. Yes, this is a very picky thing to point out, but to the hardcore fan we do think about these things! ...On a related note, is Donnington Park included, and if so is it the current pile of mud that ran out of money on a retrofit we've had for awhile? Bonus unlockable of 'other bikes' for that? Ha.

How can you be pleased that the 2010 part of the game is "free" ? The title of the game is MotoGP 09/10... not MotoGP'09 There are some really good parts to the game, but too too many other flaws (a few listed by K750) that forced me to sell it on :o(

Will you be able to race more than 3 laps on the DLC tracks? Will the setups actually work properly this time? Will the online actually hold more than 5 players without crashing? Will the qualifying be fixed on the DLC? Can you actually see some race info on the lobbies or splits in qauli or postion in TT? Will the bikes be balanced this time? Will any of the bugs be fixed?

Don't give in to the poor reviews of this game. It is more enjoyable than the reviews, critics and users, have obvioulsy lead on. You will definitely enjoy the career mode, and this game is highly rewarding for riders that exercise more skill and patience in their racing. I bought the game then returned it after reading some lame reviews for this game. After hearing SBK 10 is not coming stateside, I repurchased it, and am DAMN glad I did. Not to mention the fact that they are going to include new tracks and the Moto 2 class as DLC, it is also FREE! Value for the money, and free DLC, what more do you want?
