Namco Bandai completes purchase of Atari's PAL distribution

New entity named Namco Bandai Partners will operate in 50 countries worldwide.

Namco Bandai has announced that it has completed its purchase of the global PAL distribution operation owned by troubled company Atari, who recently reported a $319 million loss for the 2008/2009 financial year.

Cities XL will be one of the new titles distributed by Namco Bandai.
Cities XL will be one of the new titles distributed by Namco Bandai.

The new entity has been renamed Namco Bandai Partners and will distribute titles worldwide from Namco Bandai Games, Atari, and other video game publishers. The outfit will operate in 50 countries, but not in North America or Japan.

One of the first titles taken on by the company is the upcoming city builder Cities XL from Monte Cristo, which Namco Bandai Partners will distribute throughout much of Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand, this October. Namco Bandai Partners has promised to issue an updated release schedule "shortly" for other titles it has picked up.

This isn't the first time Namco Bandai has taken something from Atari. Last week the Tekken maker announced it had acquired the rights to the Dragon Ball franchise (previously a staple of Atari's library) and would be publishing the upcoming Raging Blast for the Xbox 360 and PS3, Revenge of King Piccolo for the Wii, and Attack of the Saiyans for the DS.

Well i know that Atari had given us great games in the past, but quite frankly i think it's about time that Namco/Bandai take over the rights of the DB games. Who knows maybe will get more of what we would like to see, in the future of DB games now.

burst limit was a lot of fun but it lacked characters and levels. what was there was golden, but there just wasn't enough content. the pace was fast, the fighting was fun and stylistic of DBZ, and the characters were well represented. However, the story mode was really thin and for those who didnt know the story already, they would've had a difficult time getting it from the game. this game though looks amazing, raging blast, it looks like it will take parts of both BL and the old budokai tenchaichi games, (idk how to spell lol). I hope they keep the pace of BL, plus the simplicity and responsiveness of the controls. I hope the camera is better than in Budokai 3, cause its taking that same angle, from behind your fighter. THe only reason i dont like that is because in 2p mode, it goes split screen when it really shouldnt. But otherwise its cool. And the destructable environments are fantastic, thats a huge part of DBZ. i just hope they go from saiyan saga all the way to the end of Z, maybe even include gt? like i said, BL was lacking in content. I want more characters, more level, more story. i hope this game delivers.

Gold time for Namco Bandai seems... poor atari.. seems he cant play well with the big guns with next generation consoles... a shame because Burst limit was really good...

That's a real shame. Hopefully, Atari won't go bust. Maybe someone will pick them up.

Has anyone seen the screens for this new game? They look great, lets hope the fighting engine will be fast and up to date.

I think PAL is the European standard, which is why this deal only affects them for now.
