NASCAR 2011: The Game backtracks to March

Eutechnyx delays new racing sim from February to March 29 for more polish; will debut on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.

In late September, Activision confirmed it had entered a multiyear deal with Britain-based development studio Eutechnyx to publish multiple NASCAR video games. The first of the bunch, NASCAR 2011: The Game, was pegged for release in February, but that's no longer the case.

The delay of game was announced via the game's official forums recently, and Eutechnyx's community manager explained why pushing the title back was a necessary move for the studio.

NASCAR 2011: The Game has been given the green flag for next month.
NASCAR 2011: The Game has been given the green flag for next month.

"The main reason is we simply wanted more time to polish it and hopefully make it the experience you guys are craving," reads the statement. "It's never easy to delay a game as it can cause a lot of disappointment, but we genuinely feel that by doing this you guys will be even happier with the end product."

NASCAR 2011: The Game will be a fully licensed NASCAR entry with over 22 real-world tracks. It will also support up to 16 players and have an experience system, which will unlock cars, decals, and sponsors in Career mode.

In September 2009, Electronic Arts announced that it would let its NASCAR license lapse and forgo creating further titles based on the popular sport. Activision's interest in the franchise came about a year later when it was rumored that the megapublisher would be involved with future NASCAR titles. Then at the end of September 2010, it became official: Activision would publish and distribute NASCAR 2011: The Game, but Eutechnyx would hold the license.

It needs a career mode that we can play for a long time that can be just like the real thing. I really enjoyed the career modes of NASCAR 03 and 04 (but the inconsistency in the NPC's was too annoying). I want to be able to have my own team, slowly earn some money, make my team better, and eventually be good enough to win races. However, if we are going to race for real teams, like the most recent NASCAR 09, then the contracts need to be for the entire season!!!! I the difficulty to be enough so that winning a race really makes you feel good. I want a DNF to not kill your contract hopes. I want creativity in the cars and your team (or a real team). I also understand the excitement in realism when it comes to handling, but lets get real.... would you rather have a hard-faught battle for a top ten or have the lead for a couple laps and wreck over and over again from silly handling issues through a turn or after a tap? So my overall hopes are a very exciting career mode with lots of customizations and upgrades while having the racing experience challenging and fun (instead of easy, frustrating, or sensitive). Maybe it wont be this game, but I feel it will come.

I agree it is a dumb move on the date that they moved it to. I am a huge nascar fan and a huge console/pc racer so I and I believe that all of us diehard fans will purchase it sight unseen after two years of nothing. I hope it meets their and ours expectations. God Speed.

Well I have guarded hopes for this game, hopefully it will live up to some of the hype. I have been wanting a good Nascar game ever since Nascar Simracing years ago, its a shame this will not be released on pc. The best thing about Simracing back in the day was that you could create new skins for each racer so you could update the paint jobs to coincide with the latest designs each driver has, that and you could give those drivers that sponsor alcohol and tobacco companies the right designs. But oh well I will just have to make due with a console version of this game.

I just wanted to see a d--- split-screen! Is that to much to ask for? That's what made the other ones good to me. Me and my Dad wanted to race in 09, well nothing related to split-screen. GIVE US SPLIT-SCREEN!

Maybe it wont be a great game but it can be any worse then the last 5 nascar games EA made. They have the diff manufactures so that right there is already a leg up.

@kejigoto I am with you on that statement. Between Forza 3 and playing Gran Turismo (which has NASCAR in it), I can hold out till Forza 4 as the next driving game to buy. This game can't be nearly as good as either one of those two series.

Its a shames that this game is only being released in north America, but the good news is its going to be region free for the xbox 360 according to the developers, so importing it is not going to be a problem! Not too bothered about the delay as long as it does indeed get released this year :)

Acitvision owns Bizarre, therefore they should have made it. That would have been cool, they used to do the F1 games on the PS1

This doesn't look promising at all, the developer behind this project has done anything but prove their worth in the racing genre and Activision probably won't be looking to deliver an amazing racing simulation experience, instead looking to get this out the door and onto store shelves ASAP to start making up for the lacking performance from everything they're involved with outside of Call of Duty and the Blizzard projects. I'm fine waiting for Forza 4 thank you very much, if I'm really hurting for a new racing game I'll snatch up Shift 2 when it releases.

I think the fact that they decided to attach "the game" to it alone will show that it will not be a very good game at all. What do you think?

This won't be any good for 2 reasons 1 it's Activision 2 the same studio that brought us the horrible SRS: Street Racing Syndicate is making this. This will all end in tears for all involved.....

I just hope the vehicle damage in this game is much better than the one on Gt5 because although graphically it doesnt look as good, gameplay has to be better in order to warrant a purchase. Constructive criticism is what this site needs and not nerdy 12 year old morons who type "cant wait".
