Naughty Dog Evaluating Uncharted 4 at 60fps
"We're going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make," director Bruce Straley says.

Although developer Naughty Dog is targeting 60fps for its upcoming action-adventure game Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, the studio won't push the PlayStation 4 game that far if it compromises the overall experience. That's according to director Bruce Straley, who said the demo from December's PlayStation Experience (above) was locked at 30fps, though the game is now achieving a higher frame rate.

"We're actually above 30, but we locked it [for the demo]," Straley said in the latest issue of EDGE, as reported by Videogamer. "We're going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player's experience, then it's our choice as developers to say, 'Well, we're going to go for the experience [instead of] the 60 frames.'"
The first three Uncharted games have all run at 30fps, but in June 2014, Naughty Dog's Eric Monacelli said the studio was targeting 60fps for Uncharted 4, due to the PS4's significant technical power.
Last year's PS4 game The Last of Us Remastered ran at 60fps, and Naughty Dog has previously spoken about 60fps becoming the new standard for games.
"We hope so," Naughty Dog lead programmer Jason Gregory told GameSpot last summer. "It used to just be that first-person shooters were 60 by default, but a lot of other games didn't feel the need for it. I think we're showing that it does make a difference even in a non-FPS type game.
A Thief's End launches later this year, exclusively for PS4. For more on A Thief's End, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
