NES Classic Editions Are Back at GameStop Today, But Probably Not for Long
Another shot at getting one before Christmas.
The NES Classic Edition remains hard to track down without paying a premium, even a month after launch. You may have the opportunity to pick one up soon, as GameStop says more units are arriving today.
"Limited quantities" of the $60 console are coming to GameStop stores today and tomorrow, December 15 and 16, according to a press release. The retailer recommends checking GameStop's website or calling your local store to find out more details.
Preorders for the console, which plays 30 classic NES games, quickly sold out earlier this year. The limited supply of consoles available on launch day in November went just as quickly. The ensuing weeks have become a competition to be the first to buy one when it comes back in stock, but they often disappear in a matter of minutes.
Some retailers have tried alternative approaches to first-come, first-served. ThinkGeek (a subsidiary of GameStop), for instance, randomly selected people with one on their wishlist and offered them 24 hours to buy the console. Amazon, meanwhile, has diverted some of its stock to its physical storefronts and Prime Now locations.
Nintendo has promised additional systems will continue to be made available during the holiday shopping season. With Christmas 10 days away, though, it's become clear that you won't be able to easily walk into a store and pick one up by then.
