Netflix Will Offer Nearly 50 Games By End of 2022

Despite Netflix's sudden dip in subscribers. It’s currently looking into mobile gaming to help boost numbers.

Netflix is currently looking to bolster its business by exploring other content opportunities. According to The Washington Post, video games are a specific focus and Netflix intends to offer nearly 50 mobiles for people to play by the end of the year.

After its announcement that it intended to explore the space last July, Netflix has been getting more into gaming. Since then, it has hired several different executives in key positions over the last few months. While at the same time, Netflix has released mobile games such as “Stranger Things: 1984.”

Video games have become a fertile ground for the company. Not only has it turned shows like Stranger Things into mobile games, but it has also adapted popular gaming franchises like League of Legends into shows like Arcane.

The news comes following the revelation that Netflix had lost more than a third of this valued stock on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. It’s reported that it lost over 700,000 subscribers after pulling Netflix out of Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.

For its part, Netflix attributed the loss of subscribers to competitors such as Hulu and Disney+, as well as the practice of password sharing.

Netflix owns Texas-based mobile studio Boss Fight Entertainment, Next Games, which is located in Finland, and Night School Studio, which operates out of California.

Mobile gaming is the worst niche Netflix could possibly try to enter. iOS and Android already have a well-established marketplace for games, and most of them are free. I think their reasoning was probably something like "Most Netflix users watch on their cell phone, so we should add some games." I can't imagine Netflix producing games compelling enough to keep me away from Pokemon GO, Mario Kart Tour and Call of Duty Mobile. The big companies already have our niche taken care of here, no need for a video streaming company to try to come in and do things better. Best case scenario, the games will appeal to the casual gaming niche, but those are niche games already available in app stores and the people who play them are not going to buy Netflix just for those 50 Netflix games. It'll be a nice little bonus for them but as soon as $10/mo gets too expensive to continue, they'll cancel.

Well... Netflix loves to rip off other movies and series.

I can't way to see the great original gaming creations that will come out.

Angry Chickens, Vegetables vs Mummies, Floppy Frog, Demagorgan Go and my absolute favorite, Hikes of Fees (Kinda like Clash of Clans, but with a 10% cost increase everytime you play it).

They blaming every thing for their problems except the real problem. Netflix is losing people not because of competition or pw sharing. But their own lack of good content coming out and their price hikes. And then on top of that they started customer shaming with the whole pw sharing thing.

Netflix like our own government obviously needs to clean house and start fresh. Because the people in charge have no idea what they are doing. They are prioritizing short term profits over long term growth. They were a clear leader in the streaming industry now they looking to put themselves out of business.

And this decision to get into the gaming space is just another bad idea. They need to fix what they have before expanding.

@gaeandilth: Hit the nail on the head with the first paragraph, kind of went on a tangent with the rest. Netflix is raising prices while providing less value, simple as that. Meanwhile HBO Max & Disney+ are crushing it with originals and Hulu has basically everything else you could want.

I see no reason to have Netflix.

Alright I will take the 2nd negative or be the devil's advocate.

I hope that Netflix jumps into the gaming space wholeheartedly, both mobile, PC, and with luck ...console. Mobile crap, sure. A bigger selection of PC game via a DDP like steam, gog, etc yeah bring it on. Have, Netflix come out with their own console, even better.

Even when a corporation jumps into or fails out of the gaming industry it is always good for gamers. It pumps up competition, controls prices, increases innovation, and funds game developers not just for their current game but that next one down the line. For every Turbo grafx 16, every Sega, every Google STadia, UPlay .... every step backwards allows a better step forward for gamers.

So Netflix starts offering free to play mobile games along with its subscriptions- how does this hurt us hardcore gamers? how does it hurt Netflix subscribers, how does it hurt mobile games?.... (well nothing can hurt them more then what they have already done to themselves) Truth is, it doesn't. The competition is good. Gamers are just to embedded in this fanboy, one camp or another. Consumer participation in the gaming industry does not have to be a WWE wrestling match where there is a clear protagonist and a clear antagonist. (good vs evil).

The gaming industry is now larger then music and film, there are more games that come out each year then some consoles got their entire lifespan. WE as gamers could stand to have another big competitor enter the console field... yeah yeah I know gaming consoles are dead. OR enter into the Digital Distribution Platform PC to compete against Steam and the dozens of others entering the field. I know there are a lot of people still shell-shocked when FOX became the 4th tv network or still in the ICU after they introduce the 'female M&M'. And all gamers have to take a breathe and not freak out if they do not happen to own a platform that happens to have a popular game that is not on theirs.

Big players entering the gaming industry, like a Netflix, amazon, apple... have now done.... is a good thing. It gives gaming consumers options, and more choices... even if those choices seem hard.

@jenovaschilld: I'll meet you halfway with "Anything that brings NEW gamers into the business is good for the industry."

I don't suspect they'll get this right, but the statement holds true.

@Pyrosa: I'm absolutely with both of you on this point.

This makes me think of Virtual Boy, then the VR systems they set up in the 90's at Blockbuster and eventually the poorly made VR headsets FB came out with. It keeps pumping billions into a market that will get there. It's just not that great right now.

Other examples include flying cars and alternative energy. The potential has been there for decades. The newest generation gets excited, as if they thought of it, then scramble to produce the best device or service, and then eventually move on.

This competition and excitement is good for technology and ultimately good for the consumer.

@jenovaschilld: Amazon and Google so far stink, and no one cares about them, and Netflix will follow the same. LOL.....fans are dedicated to consoles that actually like to play real games.

@soulcrusher777: Then your simply not getting the point, it doesn't matter their beginning or end, or even if they succeed or fail. The investments, the innovation, the competition is the most important thing with these corporations entering into the gaming industry. This is good for consumers, whether they adopt or not. It makes gaming better and allows more people to enter the gaming hobby.

@jenovaschilld: I got your point, but it still doesn't matter. Besides, if everyone did that, then the console industry would go away, and most gamers do not want that. If that happened, gaming would 100% suck. We will not have to worry about that happening though! Lol.

Like when your buddy is hammered and wants to do a stage dive off the festival porta-potties, this will end spectacularly well.

Netflix Will Offer Nearly 50 Games By End of 2022…

…and most people will play none of them. Better companies than Netflix have tried to break into gaming, and failed.
