New $60 Destiny Package Features All DLC, Including Rise of Iron

People who preorder can start playing everything (except Rise of Iron) right away.

Activision today announced Destiny: The Collection, a new version of the shooter that comes with all previously released content, as well as the new expansion, Rise of Iron.

It's being released on September 20 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but not last-gen systems, which is no surprise given that Rise of Iron is not coming to PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. The $60 package also comes with a single character boost that players can use to rise through the ranks and join friends who may be further along in the game.

Now Playing: Destiny - The Collection Trailer

People who preorder The Collection digitally can play the base game, as well as expansions The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King, right away, while they wait for Rise of Iron. Physical and digital preorders of Rise of Iron also come with the black and silver Iron Gjallahorn weapon, while digital preorders get you the Iron Gjallarwing Sparrow vehicle. Some physical retailers will also offer this preorder bonus.

In a news release, Activision VP Byron Beede said The Collection is a "perfect starting point" for people who have not yet played Destiny.

For players who have already started playing Destiny on a last-gen system, referred to by Bungie as a "legacy" console, they can upgrade to The Collection for $40, but only until January 31, 2017. This discounted upgrade is only offered digitally and if you own The Taken King. Your character will thankfully move forward with you, but you cannot switch platform families.

You can learn more about Destiny: The Collection and the upgrade offer here.

Starting August 16, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Destiny will no longer receive major Destiny updates or new content releases. While Destiny is staying online for PS3 and Xbox 360, there are some significant-sounding changes on the way to the gameplay experience.

First, players will no longer be able to buy the Silver currency, though people with Silver still in their accounts can use it to buy more items. Additionally, Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner will no longer be available, while "live events" such as some specific playlists, quests, bounties, and rewards, are going away after August.

You can read this post to learn more about how Destiny is changing on last-gen systems.

Bungie has already talked a lot about what's included with the Rise of Iron expansion, but even more details are coming tomorrow, August 16, during a livestream broadcast. Check back with GameSpot tomorrow to learn more.

Destiny 2 is also in the works and is scheduled to launch in 2017. No details about it have been announced at this point, though some supposed images from it have emerged online.

Will this game contain everything on the disc? Or will the DLC be download codes like The Taken King?

I am interested in trying out Destiny, but will only be buying it second hand.

Look i was sceptical when it first came out from playing halo all the way up to 4 at the time i didn't know what to expect. Destiny is its own game its not imitating cod or halo its a shooter mmo like wow no one calls it an incomplete game because an expansion comes out remember this is a console game so when we expect it to be like our normal shooters we are misguided. Any mmo fan knows what im talking about when i say respect the grind give it some credit for having the balls to be an mmo/shooter where you can do social raids strikes and have a base where you can invite random people to play with you without having to look up gt or recently played with Destiny is in a different category then shooter it is an rpg shooter and when you realize that you dont go in playing like a jar head but one who is a strategist with its different classes each having their own unique set of skills to dominate the activity weather pvp or pve its an rpg shooter not your typical halo cod believe me im a fan of all those but i dont enjoy replaying halo campaign missions but something about killing the archon priest or fogoth or whatever have you feels satisfying not to mention the way your equipment matters its all worth it when you see a purple or yellow engram drop the results of the very like i said its more like wow with guns then cod etc. #respectthegrind

I don't see any reason to get this game. If I want a good loot shooter I'd get Borderlands 2; the story and characters are far better, the variation between classes are more profound, the missions are more varied and the grind for loot is much less of a hassle.

The Collection? Lol. More like: Destiny: We've finally given you the completed game. Honestly even with all of the DLC included, the game is still seriously lacking in content, not to mention any semblance of a relevant plot. When they cut Staten out of the project, the pretty much signed their own death warrant.

@DarkReign2022: I got to agree with you. I wouldnt spend another 60.00 for all the same stuff I already have. The fact that there are only 5 missions on the Iron Banner does not excite me enough to spend any more money on this game. The repetitiveness of it is just boring and the AI doesnt really change, they still attack from the same places no matter how many time you come back to play in certain areas. Better games coming that are well worth the wait and money.

@DarkReign2022: I started a new character the other day for the heck of it, and I really don't think Destiny, with all the current DLC, is lacking in content. There are 38 story missions, and then maybe another 2 dozen or more that unlock over the course of the many endgame quest lines. Plus the dozenish strikes and 3 raids.

It'll take me as much time to get this new character through the story and the end game quests as it would to get through a playthrough of Diablo 2 or 3. I would like Bungie to bring all the raids and strikes up to current light levels, so they're all relevant in the end game though.

The story, I agree, sucks ass. It sucks because they refuse to tell it (repeatedly), and even when you get to The Taken King, and they ARE telling a story, it's all based on the lore of the story they DIDN'T tell. But, we're talking about a loot shooter here, so at least the story isn't very important.

Still, if they don't do a better job telling their "tales" and "legends" in Destiny 2, I will be pissed. Destiny 2 needs a Bioware style Codex and way more cutscenes. Skippable cutscenes.

@wretch1d: Why do you need matchmaking for raids ? It's way more fun to dick around while waiting for someone to answer that post you did on that LFG website half an hour ago. Obviously.

Oh my God, how many times are they going to repackage this freaking game? You'd think after this many releases they'd at least drop the F'ng price to a reasonable amount. But no, $60 U.S. Which means $80 + tax Canadian. For a game that's been out for 2 years and relies heavily on a player base that is slowly disappearing and with crap match making. Bungie, you've sunk so low, you must be eating rice 3 times a day by now.

@bdrtfm: you can buy the new DLC separately, but for those who don't own the game, $60 is a very fair price. The community is not dying, despite what the trolls try to get you to believe. Destiny has a very solid community and the passion Bungie is investing in it is evident. Troll on. It won't spoil anything for the rest of us.

Getting Destiny content new certainly costs a premium, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you really enjoy playing the game, but $60 for everything is, at this point, a pretty good deal.

@Mogan: That is if you never bought the base game or first two dlc packs then its a good deal. If you played it at launch and bought all dlc's since then, ask for just the rise of iron dlc and not pay again for what you already bought. paying for a game 4 times and paying for dlc 2-3 times is a scam.

@Darkangel2154: Yes, it's the best deal for folks who don't own Destiny, though even spending $60 on this pack if all you need are the expansions is still getting a lot of content for the money.

If you bought the base game when it was new, and didn't like it, there was no reason to keep paying for more of the DLC as it came out. Like I said, Destiny is not a cheap game to play new ... but you don't need to play it new unless you really enjoy it, and if you really enjoy it, you'll probably get your money's worth even if you do end up investing the full $170 over two years.

There's no scam involved, there's just content and price and how much attention you pay to those two things before making a decision.

@Darkangel2154: A scam means there's something dishonest going on, but selling the game and all the DLC in one package isn't being dishonest. As far as I can tell, there's no actual fraud involved here.

@smokerob79: No, this package is still the best deal for anybody who wants to buy Destiny, but doesn't already own any of it. What you personally think the game is worth isn't actually relevant to what I said, but I get it, you don't like Destiny.

@Mogan: Defending the game is pointless when all you think when people say its not a good deal its a bad game and they do not like it. I love the game wish it had more options and fixed pvp. but defend to your hearts content. I payed $120 for this game and got out since they just recycled content, same mobs with different skins on them. Its what happens when you push a development team to push content out but is it really content?

@Darkangel2154: I'm not actually defending Destiny, I'm just saying The Collection is the best option for new players, and I think it's worth the price. I think we might have each been confused about the point the other was making, but I'm not saying you're wrong for not thinking any part of Destiny isn't worth the money.

We can agree to disagree on what Destiny is worth, I don't mind. Destiny: The Collection literally isn't a scam though; it doesn't fit the criteria.

@Mogan: The scam here is the base game and dlc leading up to rise of iron will not hold its value and rise of iron is a dlc not a full game. Going by any or all gaming prices. The taken king is worth $20 + dlc "rise of iron" ($15) = $35. Since the game is 2 times that they are not following the games age and depreciation value as everyone's game follows.

They really charge top dollar for content and try to resell everything else for another payment. Not at good marketing group stay clear. Next time they will add a new skin/gun and resell the entire game as a bundle with all previous dlc for $60.

@pochodemarco: They didn't release any season passes. The only pass was the one for the first two DLC, which said it was for the first two DLC, so you got what you paid for and experienced the dangers of pre-ordering.

--2.the dark below
--3.the house of wolves

--this deal above is for

--no one at bungie ever said that if you bought 'the taken king'(bundle)

@pochodemarco: The Taken King included A LOT:

30+ new missions

4 new strikes (plus new versions of old strikes,

new raid

new weapons, armour, shaders, bikes, emblems, ghosts etc

3 new subclasses

new pvp modes and maps

new enemy race

new patrol location

new factions to upgrade (gunsmith etc)

new exotic quests

new currency/leveling system

etc.

PLUS you got a whole year's wroth of events (Halloween, sparrow racing, crimson doubles. AND the April update (new strike, new prison of elders, new light level, new gear etc)) FOR FREE!

In my opinion, the price for all that was pretty fair. :)
