New Bohemian Rhapsody Trailer Shows More Of Freddie Mercury

Upcoming biopic Bohemian Rhapsody focuses on Freddie Mercury joining and spearheading the British band Queen to stardom, all while leading up to the band's Live Aid performance in 1985. Though there have been a few trailers in the past, 20th Century Fox has released the official trailer for the Rami Malek-led movie. And in it, we finally get a good look at the life Mercury led before and during his tenure with the band

The trailer shows a young Freddie Mercury chatting with Queen before a band member sullenly states the lead singer quit. Mercury injects that they'll need someone new and the trailer immediately starts showing moments of Mercury commanding and working with the band to craft some of the most memorable rock songs in music history. We then get a couple more shots before Mercury's sexuality comes up, to which the trailer shifts tone and presents a more serious look at Mercury as a musical figure. Bohemian Rhapsody was first announced in 2010. At that time, it was originally confirmed Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Brüno) would play the role of Freddie Mercury. But a falling out with the surviving members of the band caused disagreements between Baron Cohen and the film's staff, ultimately ending in the comedian leaving the project. A few other names floating around--Ben Whishaw (Stoned, Cloud Atlas) was among them--before 20th Century Fox landed on Rami Malek (Night at the Museum, Mr. Robot) in May of 2017. In the same year, director Bryan Singer was replaced by Eddie the Eagle director, Dexter Fletcher.

Bohemian Rhapsody releases on November 2, 2018.
