New Borderlands Movie Photos Show Off Cate Blanchett And Company's Killer Fashion Sense

Dressed to kill.

Its been a long time since there have been any updates on the Borderlands movie, but this week, new images for the film have finally arrived alongside fresh plot details ahead of its August 9 release.

As first shared by People, Cate Blanchett is the spitting image of Lilith, a notorious outlaw in the Borderlands games who wields both guns and vast psychic powers as one of the handful of Sirens in the galaxy. In the film adaptation of the Gearbox Software game, Lilith is tasked by Atlas (Edgar Ramirez) to find his missing daughter on the harsh planet of Pandora, a world inhabited by bloodthirsty bandits and lethal wildlife.

This leads Lilith to team up with several outcasts, including former soldier Roland (Kevin Hart), explosives expert Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), her bodyguard Krieg (Florian Munteanu), scientist Patricia Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis) and the service droid Claptrap (Jack Black). Similar to Blanchett, everyone else in Lilith's crew is sporting gear directly inspired by the video games.

Directed by Eli Roth, Borderlands wrapped shooting in June 2021, but there were a number of re-shoots led by Deadpool's Tim Miller that led to the film's lengthy post-production phase. It's not the only video game adaptation coming out soon, as a Knuckles TV series arrives in April ahead of the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on December 20. The threequel also features the return of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and a new nemesis for the Sega mascot, Shadow the Hedgehog.

I'm watching it. I'm cheap, put a ripped shirtless guy in a movie and I'll watch it.

@pillarrocks: If you want a comedic actor to play a muscular hero for an action film, why wouldn't you just hire Terry Crews instead?! For that alone, this deserves to tank.

@hallenbeck77: Because casting is done by who's trending in Hollywood? I am just glad that it doesn't have Pedro Pascal in it.

@hallenbeck77: Because that would make sense. Sense is in short supply in Hollywood.

Looks very...cheap? Hopefully it's fun but it hasn't sounded too promising over the years.

About 10 years too late. Is Borderlands even in the current cultural zeitgeist?
