A new kind of Darksiders.

Among the 30 games confirmed for Google, a few are brand-new titles. One surprising inclusion is Darksiders Genesis, a new game in THQ's series about angels, demons, and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The first trailer for the game released today, showing the horseman Strife battling demons fromh a Diablo-like camera perspective. We're likely to get more details at THQ's E3 2019 panel, scheduled for Thursday, June 13 at 10:30 AM PT / 1:30 PM ET / 6:30 PM BST. That panel address the "the inception of the Darksiders universe and where it's headed next," while also touching on "a brand-new Darksiders game that takes the franchise in a fresh direction."

Now Playing: Google Stadia: What We Need To Know

Hopefully, the new direction that Genesis is embarking on is a good one, as the last Darksiders game wasn't very well-received. In our Darksiders III review, Richard Wakeling wrote, "Darksiders 3 retrogrades on its predecessors with an unfocused approach that constantly clashes with itself. There are remnants of a good game here, buried within the vivacious combos of a combat style this game doesn't want to embrace. Unfortunately, it's buried far too deep to ever salvage."

Google Stadia lets you stream games from the cloud to your computer or TV. For $130 USD / £120, you can pre-order the Stadia Founder's Edition and get a limited-edition controller, Chromecast Ultra, a three-month subscription to Stadia Pro, and a three-month Buddy Pass for a friend to try Stadia Pro. The Founder's Edition will release in November 2019.

For $10 USD / £9 a month, Stadia Pro lets you stream games in 4K HDR at 60fps, and also provides access to a free library of games, a discount in Stadia's online store, and a limited-time Destiny 2 deal. If you don't want to invest that much money just yet, Stadia Base (which offers a cheaper 1080p at 60fps alternative) will release sometime in 2020.

Ehhh, I was hoping Strife would get a proper installment instead of this.

Why did they have to stray from the formula of Darksiders 1? It worked, and it worked well.

I picked up the "Deathfinitive" edition of the second game and it felt completely different, in a bad way. It got reviewed better than the first, but I definitely think the first is better. Haven't played the third.

This is always where I expected the franchise to go, so I'm not disappointed so long as it continues the story properly. And the game is actually coming to all platforms, so...wtf?

This is not what I want from Darksiders at all. I hope they have not abandoned the Zelda and Metroidvania style games of the series.

@BassMan: This is actually what I always expected from the very beginning. That, or a co-op stylish action game. How else are you going to fit all four horsemen on a single screen?

**There are some platforming elements in the trailer, actually.

@Barighm: Why would you need to fit them all on a single screen? Darksiders has never been about couch co-op. They can do co-op online.

@BassMan: A multiplayer game with all four Horsemen has always been the goal. I know there are fans of the Metroidvania stuff, but let's face it, this was always where the franchise was going. I mean, can you imagine the game handling four horsemen at once with the traditional style? Yikes.

The real problem is in not continuing the story. That would be a kick in the pants.

@Barighm: I would actually like to see the game play like the first one did, but give you a choice of which Horseman to play as.

Moving this type of game to an isometric viewpoint is taking a step backwards, imo. The fighting will be lacking and will probably be more Diablo-type attacks. The fighting was the highlight of the gameplay.

@Barighm: You edit your comment from saying cherry picking is poor form to this. LOL.

This was not always where the franchise was heading. Sure, 4 player co-op was something they always wanted from the beginning, but the true 'Genesis' of the franchise is a 3D Zelda inspired game. This strays away from that. It is just milking the IP with a game that is much easier to develop.

They can do 4 player co-op in the traditional Darksiders style. The horsemen not controlled by a player would be AI. There would be challenges in making it, but it is possible. Besides, co-op is not essential to the franchise. Just because there are 4 horsemen, doesn't mean you need to have 4 player co-op. I have actually enjoyed playing through the games from different character/story perspectives and I agree it would be a shame to not continue the current story.

I was hoping for another action-puzzle game like the first two. The 3rd game changed too much and made the character too weak (1 of the four horsemen and taken out by 2 hits?) This is even more different and looks like a different game altogether as they seem to have gone with a Diablo style game.

@lion2447: I believe that's why they called this one Genesis and not Darksiders 4. We'll probably still get a Darksiders 4, but I'm happy with this, finally some co-op even if its Isometric. The 3rd one could have been great, if they had stuck with the same formula, instead of trying to go for dark souls feel.

@Thanatos2k: Cheap, yes. Lazy, **** no. Their post launch support has been better than Anthem or 76. You probably haven't even played the game.

@aross2004: I'm against misinformation. Spread misinformation, and I'll be there. It just so happens this game is getting tons of it at a website known for hammering games for non-gaming related reasons filled with forum posters who like to hate on things without having any first hand experience of what they're hating. So, yes, I'm here a lot. And Thanatos gets the extra barb because he's been known to say things like that.

A better question is why aren't more fans defending the game? The game was brought back from oblivion because a tiny team of devs was given a chance to bring it back with a shoestring budget. And they delivered a full scale release and are sticking around to fix it. That's worthy of praise, but all you "fans" can think about is "Muh Zelda puzzles!!!".

@Barighm: "A better question is why aren't more fans defending the game?"

Because it wasn't a good game? Just because you're a fan doesn't mean you have to defend bad things. It was cheaply made and lazily threw together gameplay systems from other better games (like the Souls series) with no understanding about why those systems worked in those games. This is what the series has done in every game, honestly. It worked in 1, it sort of worked in 2, and didn't work at all in 3.

Remember to Barighm, a fan is only someone who likes the game, but everyone who liked other Darksiders games and thought this one was a failure is merely a "fan" and obviously spreading misinformation.

@Barighm: Nothing personal, but I'm not sure why anyone needs to defend D3. If you liked it, great. If others didn't, that's fine too.

You could maybe pick a better game to fall on your sword for.

@afromakka: Ignore the review. Not only is it outright wrong in many ways, but it's also likely just flak for that interview THQ had. The game is an easy 7 after the patches.
