New Ghost In The Shell Anime In Production

Far from Hollywood.

Whether Hollywood's take on Ghost in the Shell left you pining for the anime versions or simply wanting more of the story, you'll soon get your wish.

Production I.G. and Kodansha have announced they are working on a new Ghost in the Shell animation project. Kenji Kamiyama, who directed the Ghost in the Shell anime series Stand Alone Complex, is on board to co-direct with Shinji Aramaki (known for numerous anime titles including Appleseed Alpha).

Now Playing: Is The New Ghost In The Shell Movie A Good Adaptation?

There are no other details at this time about this new production, but if Kamiyama's previous work on Stand Alone Complex is any indication you can expect high-quality animation, lots of action, and of course a plot revolving around the political and social issues that make Ghost in the Shell such a compelling story.

The anime TV series, along with the original manga and the 1995 feature film Ghost in the Shell, are all reflected in Hollywood's recent take on the Japanese series. Our reviewer (and anime guru) Kallie Plagge said its pacing and stylized take on the story's sci-fi setting were well done, but the film faces big casting issues and didn't accomplish its main intention.

"The movie not only doesn't answer or even truly explore the questions it raises, it also mishandles a story about identity by largely excluding the people it's about. That's a critical failure, and one that cannot be rectified by cool-looking geisha robots," she said.

I hope it's more Stand Alone Complex. If memory serves, SAC Solid State Society allowed for more stuff after it.
I liked SAC over the two films (the original anime and Innocence), as I thought SAC was closer to the manga than the films were (particularly in terms of tone and how it wasn't always 'super serious').
Didn't watch ARISE, tho', and I have no intention of watching the live-action (maybe when it's on HBO or something).

I really like the original anime film when it came out. I'm not at all "pining" for more of it.

One of the things I like with the anime I watch is how/when the stories feel self contained. Most anime I like is this way- one and done.

Stand alone complex was my least favourite. I much preferred the 1995 film. It was more serious and philosophical, and cooler. Stand alone complex was like a cartoon for kids.

My love for S.A.C knows no bounds. A new GITS anime is music to my ears. I do however want them to go back to the style of S.A.C and not Arise. Arise was good, but nowhere near S.A.C.

I love these characters so much. Especially Batou. So. Damn. Awesome.

F yeah. Personally hope they retain the major's appearance and personality like in the Stand Alone Complex series. That major is the best major.

@sakaixx: she was still good in Arise but you have to keep in mind she was younger and less experienced in Arise than she was in the 1995 movie and SAC.......continuing on from SAC is good though.....SAC was awesome amd i;m totally up for another series.....
