Ghost Of Tsushima: New Game Awards Trailer Coming [Update]
Thankfully, we don't have to wait very long.
During 2019's final State of Play, Sony revealed the first part of a new trailer for the upcoming PS4 exclusive Ghost of Tsushima. Before the trailer could conclude, however, the words "to be continued" showed up on the screen and PlayStation announced that the full trailer wouldn't be revealed until The Game Awards 2019, which is scheduled to begin on December 12. [Update: The Ghost of Tsushima trailer has debuted and brought with it a new release date window for the game. For more, check out our Ghost of Tsushima pre-order guide.]
In the snippet of the trailer that we did get--which can be watched in the tweet embedded below--we see black smoke coming up through the branches of a beautiful forest. The camera angle then changes to focus on a group of Mongols traveling with a heavy-looking cart. Their leader stops upon seeing the outline of a person, which is revealed to be the main character of the game: the titular Ghost of Tsushima, Jin Sakai, who's the last samurai of Japan.

The Mongol leader draws his sword and his men follow suit. Jin also unsheathes his weapon and points it towards the Mongols in challenge. The Mongols charge and Jin lowers his sword and prepares a firecracker which he throws into the ground to (presumably) escape detection. We don't know for sure because that's where the trailer cuts out.
Ghost of Tsushima takes place on the titular island in 1274, during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. As the last samurai, Jin realizes he has to abandon his culture's way of fighting with honor if he is to have any hope in pushing back the invading army. In order to succeed, he'll have to adopt the way of the Ghost and fight with trickery, stealth, and misdirection. Given this storyline, Ghost of Tsushima could be a fictional origin of how the way of the samurai gave birth to the way of the ninja, but developer Sucker Punch has not revealed whether that is the case.
