According to The Hollywood Reporter, film company TriStar reached a deal with The Jim Henson Company for the new film. Additionally, Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman is writing the script. However, it's unclear at the moment if it's a reboot or a sequel.

No release window for the film was named.

"Despite the film's current popularity, the movie was a box-office disappointment at the time of its release and led to Henson's exit from film directing," according to The Hollywood Reporter. "It was only in the intervening years that the film gained a strong cult following."

Bowie died aged 69 on January 10 after a battle with liver cancer.
