New Prey Video Goes Into Space and Turns You Into a Coffee Cup
This has no doubt been someone's fever dream at one point or another.
As part of its showing at Gamescom, Bethesda has released a new video showcasing some gameplay footage from Prey.
The first half of the video, described by Bethesda as a gameplay teaser, takes place indoors and features a brief bit of combat. We see the Gloo Cannon used to freeze enemies before killing them with Superthermal, an ability that places an explosive trap at the targeted location. After that, the player reaches an otherwise inaccessible area by using the Mimic Matter ability to transform into a coffee cup, which is able to move through a small opening.
Following that, the video briefly goes outside the space station the game is set on. We don't get to see any action take place out there, but it does look rather beautiful, if somewhat ominous, thanks to the music.
The game does obviously include combat, but director Raphael Colantonio has noted that it includes more than than just shooting. "It's more like a hybrid game where there's narrative mixed with action mixed with a little bit of [an] RPG layer," he explained previously.
Prey was revealed at E3 in June. It's being developed by Dishonored studio Arkane, and beyond the name, it bears no connection to Human Head's Prey from 2006 (or its canceled sequel).
