I see a lot of people uploading their save games into the cloud and trading in their PS4's for the 4k models

seems like a dumb move to me. sony would most certainly lose money in some form or fashion and in a big way.

I see another home console market crash like the one 30-35 years ago. Coleco & the Colecovision died along with Atari. Nothing to buy or play for a few years until the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES/Famicom) & the Sega Master System were released in the US. Maybe arcades will make a comeback.

Sounds like Sony is just trying to copy Microsoft like they always do. This upgraded hardware in no way helps Sony they have the lead and they keep selling consoles all this more powerful PS4 will do is cannibalize the sales of Sony vR .I for sure won't be getting a upgraded PS4 I know Sony suck when it comes to software and software tools for developers is the only way this upgrade idea will work. If the xboxone gets a upgrade I will be getting that

If ALL games developed after the PS4K have the option to run at 60fps, then I'll buy it. 60fps or GTFO.

The more I hear rumors about this the more I see a nightmare coming for current PS4 owners --- myself included as I own a PS4 and X1 . It's funny because it doesn't really feel like this console gen ever got started for Sony or MS due to both of them rushing out under-powered boxes that lack the graphic horsepower needed to make a true difference. I personally could care less about 4K I'd just like to have had a console with a graphics processor that could at least accomplish the majority of its games at 1080p /30fps and all the bells and whistle needed from the get go---even if I'd have had to pay a little more back then. If the hardware wasn't ready neither Sony or MS should have leaped before they could put out a decent product. I think that it all comes down to the fact that neither company wanted to spend the extra to have a specialized graphics chip built for their console this gen. Yes, they saved money in the long run and offered a cheaper console but the gamers who really cared got screwed in the short term. In the Past 3 years all we've heard about are all the great games that are coming and most of those are delayed to the next year due to hardware issues that developers were having from day one of the console releases. Half if not more of the software released has performance issues when it does come out on day one. If anything Sony and MS themselves may lead to this being the last console gen we see as we know it for consoles. It feels like all we've heard were excuses and this is only a bandage after the fact. If things keep going this way, game consoles could become irrelevant. I really hope that doesn't happen.

Im all for the option, I just hope they dont start doing exclusives that will only run on the PS4K and not the PS4. Hopefully the PS4K is just a visual upgrade for those that want it or can afford it. I mean shit there's like 35 million PS4s out there now I cant see them splitting the customers.

This is gonna be one hell of an E3 this year. NX, PS4K, whatever MS is doing, maybe PC news too... geez.

If Sony release this, it'll seem like the New 3DS, i.e. a hardware upgrade for techno-junkies with virtually no game support and no advantage over the original console (except the New 3DS is more crash-prone than the old one). It'd be a cynical way for Sony to bolster the sales figures when they start to drop off (and maybe convince long-term waverers like me to upgrade from the PS3), but nothing for any existing owners to worry about.

However there is one thing which might make this a necessary and welcome upgrade - just think about what happened with the Vita / PS3 remote play. It arrived with much fanfare and the promise of being able to play PS3 games away from the tv, but only the ancient Metal Gear Solid pack (PS1 / PS2 / Gamecube games, let's not forget) made this a reality. The PS3 hardware was way too slow and the ram was way too small to cope with anything but the most primitive of games, resulting in lots of annoyed / disappointed buyers (me included), a flood of nearly new Vitas appearing on the 2nd hand market, and the near-death of Sony's extremely powerful 3DS beater.

Now just imagine if the new Sony VR headset hits the same issues on the existing PS4, with only the old Killzone and PS Eye games being wheeled out of retirement to make it look like it's up to the job. Result - Project Morpheus becomes Project Deadmeat. In this case it'd make much more sense for Sony to swallow the angry cries from existing PS4 owners waiting for the VR kit, and release it only on a new VR-compatible PS4.5. This way they'd be able to make extra PS4 sales along with the new hardware, only need to sell it to people who were interested (if to all intents and purposes it's otherwise just a normal PS4), not annoy the majority of existing PS4 owners, and not shoot their new VR hardware in both kneecaps on release day.
